Forums - Gaming - Its a great time to be a PC Gamer

Well this thread got tainted sonner than I thought =/.

Still, if there is anyone out there who is looking for some builds or hardware as well as game deals there is a guy over on YT called "cult of Mush" who I've been following for a few months now.

I buy almost all my games on PC now. My Xbox just collects dust. At least until Gears 4.

The prices, competent ports, fast framerates and graphics options make it a fantastically flexible and enjoyable platform.

What kind of "expense" we talking about?. I hope it doesn't involve loathing that certain group of people like we saw in the last thread, that should stay outside this thread entirely.

I played Mount & Blade to death lol, I was so happy when Paradox Interactive picked them up a few years ago. In my opinion they're the absolute perfect publisher for the franchise, and I can't wait to see what their additional funding is going to yield in Mount & Blade II (the footage showed so far looks awesome).

Yeah, Paradox is pretty good when they leave out the DLCs lol

It looks like TaleWorlds recruited some foreign talent based on the developer videos. To me the game looks totally AAA, although I was already happy with the Warband graphics. I love the graphics of Mount & Blade.

Have you played any of the mods or expansions for Warband and what's your experience?

Paradox does like DLCs and I don't fault people for not liking the practice, but they are by far my favorite company when it comes to handling DLCs. Seriously, the life they continue to breathe into games like CKII, Victoria II, EU IV etc years after release is just wonderful, and they're almost always reasonably priced (full expansions usually never topping $20). Vanilla CKII and EU IV would be absolutely unrecognizable if I went back at this point lol, they redefine their games over time like no one I've ever come across. It can be frustrating to have to learn new features and basically be a novice briefly again, but they're almost always big improvements and I just love them for that... it keeps their games from going stale.

I was indeed surprised to see a lot of westerners in what I thought was primarily a Turkish studio when I watched their presentation online, and it looks like they're basically making the game they always wanted to make (just lacking the resources) and we all longed for. I'm just so damn psyched for it lol

I'm trying to remember exactly which I played as I primarily played the game while it was in beta (it was actually one of the first games I came across that sold itself in beta, a practice that's common now). I know I played the heck out of Mount & Blade, and looking at my steam I own Warband and Fire & Sword as well, so I'm pretty sure I played the first though likely neglected Fire & Sword. Was Warband multiplayer? I really don't think I spent much time in that one either, most of my experience was with the original.

Imo its always a good time to be a PC gamer. Especially how I want to get back to League of Legends, Sims 4 and Those free2play RPGS!

Id imagine most people who own a Nintendo system own it for the First party games and exclusives.

So id imagine they are pretty happy.

Well that would still rely on Nintendo making a bunch of great games then, which they havent really been doing. Especially when it comes to WiiU.

"Great Games" can be taken differently to each person.

What? No, I'm talking about the games themselves. Things that might work and work well on PC, but wouldn't translate well to console. Like the entire RTS genre.

I dont see any game i missing on my PS4 the PC has, but theres quite a lot of high quality exclusives the PS4 has the PC lacks. Sure the PC has its mobas and free to play games but these dont interest me, even if they would i only would havet he time, money and dedication to play one of them. Sorry but to say some obscure indie game or free to play game is on the same quality like Bloodborne or U4 is redicolous.

Steam has a lot of legacy games from previous generations but do you what there is in the console world? PS1, 2 and 3. You can play all these games as well on your older console.

And no i dont see how the steam library gets bigger and bigger over PSN, PC gamers used to bragg about all these indies. Now we do get them too and even for free on PS+, and more and more free to play games at least the popular ones. Same way with 7th games, we get more and more remasters and older games on PS4. Along every new release plus exclusives from japanese devoloper or from Sony. No the difference becomes smaller and samller

Yeah the Neo is strong enough to play games in 60fps. Can you built a stronger pc? sure you can but the Neo is hitting the average target of PC gamers wallets, lets be honest.

Why should Sony reset the next gen? they arent even sure there will be a PS5. From now on the PS4 library will get bigger and bigger

I swear i dont know why you have not been warned for your bullshit.

You dont see any games your missing thats on PC thats not on your PS4??. Maybe this is cos you dont own a F**kin PC?.

But even by not owning one it doesnt mean you have to be blinded to whats on the PC.

PS4 has many high quality exclusives and PC has none other then free2play games and mobas? are you for real? this is clear flamebait.

Star Citizen (Anyone thats looking forword to No Mans Sky should also have this game on their rader since it will offer much much more).

Stellaris

Europa Series,

Civ series,

Mount and Blade Series

Total War Series.

Wreckfest (Next Car Game) (Destion Derby original devs are making this)

Unreal Tournament 2016

Toxikk

Total War: Warhammer

Homeworld Series

XCom 2

ArmA 3

Pillars of Eternity: The White March

Planet Coaster

Descent: Underground

Underworld: Ascendant

LawBreakers

World of Warcraft

Star Wars The Old Republic

Dota 2.

The Real Minecraft

Divinity: Original Sin

Master of Orion

Warhammer 40k- Battlefleet: Gothic Armada

Escape From Tarkov

System Shock 3

Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War series

And thats just off the top of my head and only AA/AAA titles.

If we where to add the wealth of indie titles your PS4 liberary would be dwarfed.

And you can play all your old PS1 and PS2 and PS3 games as long as you still own and have them consoles hooked up and as long as they are still working. Or if you want to pay sony for buying your gmes again you can too.

However on PC we dont have to do that hasle. All our games are playable from the start up to now.

And like i said you do not get even HALF! of the Indie games released on PC!, and half the times the ones you do get is long after PC gamers are finished and moved onto the next thing.

So no the Steam games are not getting smaller the size difference is growing much much bigger.

All your exclusive JRPG's will end up on PC dont worry just like they have been doing already.

An impressive list, but it fails to impress people who aren't all about FPS, MOBAs, MMOs, or RTS. Like me.

:D

Still a rather big list, though. If anything, I believe the misunderstanding here is might be that Ruler doesn't care much for those genre and is more interested in stuff like TLG, Star Ocean, or Horizon. A lack of interest creates a lack of awareness, as well as a preference. That's the real divide between Consoles and PCs now; genre. Yes, some cross back and forth. But the best ones tend to be exclusive.

First, your interests must be fairly limited as far as PC games go as there is zero chance you could get "almost every game" the PC gets on your PS4. Just take a gander through Steam's library, the number of games you can't get on consoles is rather staggering.

Second, the PS4 Neo will do nothing to close the gap with the PC (do consider a new generation of GPUs is just about to hit the market tomorrow), nor will "frequent console upgrades" really alter the console library all that much. It's not a safe assumption that console upgrades will happen any more than once per console lifecycle, and that isn't what's separating the two libraries to begin with.

We're still waiting to see if they'll even release proper consoles going forward, after all. The gap between the two libraries, in my experience, is actually growing between the consoles and the PC, not shrinking. The one thing that might actually unite the two is something like the Steam box, and I do wonder with these console upgrades and such if people might not begin simply looking at those... they already have an assortment of upgrades available, after all, as well as access to PC games.

I dont see any game i missing on my PS4 the PC has, but theres quite a lot of high quality exclusives the PS4 has the PC lacks. Well look, it's obviously a subjective matter and it could be that we just prefer different types of games, so we may have irreconcilable views. It happens.

That said, I feel like you're describing the state of PC gaming half a decade or more ago as opposed to now, as nearly all large AAA games feature on the PC these days, whereas once they were all exclusive to consoles. As an example, here's a list of what have been some of the biggest games on consoles over the past few years that are also on the PC:

-Fallout 4, Metal Gear Solid V, Alien: Isolation, Star Wars Battlefront, Battlefield 4, Shadows of Mordor, Dying Light, Assassin's Creed 4, Assasin's Creed Unity, Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Diablo III Ultimate Evil Edition, Dragon Age: Inquisiton, Far Cry 4, Far Cry Primal, Dark Souls III, Witcher 3, CoD Black Ops III, Just Cause 3, NBA 2k15, FIFA 15, Mortal Kombat X, Lord of the Fallen, Planetside 2, and Rainbow Six: Siege, Doom, Overwatch

Just to let you know, I compiled that list by walking over to my PS4 library and writing everything I saw, checked my wishlist for both PS4/PC, checked them all against steam, and then wrote down all that I own or want to try one day that are both on the PS4 and PC. Here's a list of the games I own on PS4 that aren't available on the PC:

-Uncharted Nathan Drake Collection and Uncharted 4, Madden

Aaaand the ones I plan to buy in the future for the PS4:

-Bloodborne, No Man's Sky (probably), Final Fantasy XV

The middle of those is also available on PC. Basically, then, as a person who has had a PS4 since launch (we're approaching 3 years now), the exclusives I've wound up with are Uncharted 4, ports from the PS3, Madden, and soon to be Bloodborne and FFXV.

To repeat, of the 32 AAA titles that I've wanted or purchased that were on the PS4 since it released, including those I still plan to get, 27 were available on the PC. 5 AAA titles of 32 were actually not on the PC, and only 3 of those were exclusive to the PS4 itself, with one being nothing more than ports from the PS3.

In fact, if you were to look at the PS4's highest all time metacritic scores and ignore remasters/addons/expansions, currently only 5 of the 30 are unavailable on PC (and I doubt many PC gamers are crying about their lack of access to Flower). Finally, consider that many of the games exclusive to the Xbox1 (i.e. not on the PS4) are also available on the PC, including most of their AAA titles.

A few years ago this would have been unheard of, but now the PC has accesss to more games than any system, and it's really not even close. Here's some of the games I've been playing on PC recently or are on my waitlist, for instance: Banished, Stellaris, Galactic Civilizations III, (in about one week) Hearts of Iron IV, Hegemony III & Hegemony Rome, Kerbal Space Program, Reign of Kings, (soon) Total War: Warhammer, WoW, Ark: Survival Evolved, Starcraft II, Life is Feudal, Planetbase, Crusader Kings II, Europa Universalis IV, Elite Dangerous, City Skylines, EVE Online, Civ V (soon to be VI), Ashes of the Singularity, Xcom 2, Dota 2, Distant Worlds: Universe, Universe Sandbox, Factorio... honestly, I could keep going but I think I've made my point.

I tried to limit myself there to games that are either new, released in the last few years, or are active multiplayer games, and I'm almost positive none of them are on consoles. The truth is there's just so many dang PC games that I've begun to accept I'll never get around to trying all the ones I want to try as not only did I leave many off the list, but there's a ton that were somewhat older so I thought it'd be unfair to include them.

When you add all of those to the silly long list I began this with which included only those AAA titles that are also on the PS4, neglecting entirely the others that are Xbox1/PC exclusives (there's a decent number), you can see how the PC library has really just skyrocketed out of control over the past half decade.

Otherwise, while it's true that you can always just go play older games on the PS1/2/3 and so forth, it sure is a hell of a lot more convenient to have them all sitting right there on your PC to play at any moment without having to dig out your old legacy consoles. Granted, I'm a collector of video games and so there's over a dozen consoles within eyeshot of me as I type this and that'd totally be possible, but I don't think I'm the normal case lol

So yeah, I assure you I'm not trying to crap on consoles as few love them more than I, but there's simply no way to claim PC gamers are getting shafted like they used to. If anything, there's far too much selection on the PC to the point that I find it legitimately stressful, and the only console I'd feel compelled to own for exclusives (if it weren't for friends only having the PS4) would be the Nintendo consoles at this point, as not a one of those games ever makes it to PC.

*Edit* One thing I forgot to mention in that wall of text: Many, many games on both PC and consoles are faaaar better on the PC dude to the modding community. Truly, it can be a night and day experience. It would be very hard for me to give that up.

You have to include the indie games to really acknowledge the strength of the PC.

Mount & Blade, Expeditions: Conquistador, Pillars of Eternity, Grim Dawn, Legend of Grimrock, Kingdom, Cities: Skyline, Europa Universalis, Stellaris, SOMA, Banished, just to make a few I like a lot.

There's just so many sophisticated, deep, quality games on PC made with smaller budgets.

And then there's the big ones like XCOM, Total War and Heroes of Might & Magic.

yeah but so does have the PS4, i wont search now everyone of these games to look if its also avaible on consoles but i assume they are all PC exclsuives.

Here is a list of great PS4 games who also have a lower budget and above all are PlayStatioin Exclusives.

Digimon Cyber Sleuth

Deception 4 the Nightmare Princess

Nights of Azure

Onechanbara Z2

Dead or Alive Xtreme 3

Atelier Sophie: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Book

just some games of top of my head
