I think its a good thing. More attention to themselves, no attention being drawn away towards PS4.5 or the 100s of games at E3. Gives them time to prepare fully as I presume they are not.

In terms of damage to their brand, its been done already, for like the past 4 years. Skipping E3 this year won't do them much more harm, especially since Zelda U alone is bigger than all of the E3 games they had playable last year combined.

Either way the difference is negligable.

But they aren't gaining either, and this is where the problem truly lies. 13 million is surely NOT what they are aiming for with NX, and yet it seems as if keeping the 13 million they have now isn't a priority, lol.

As I said they are gaining through having a week of press exclusive to them. This can't happen during a week like E3 were dozens of Huge announcements are going to happen and press are being shuffled from one thing to the next. That is a good reason to reveal outside of E3, likely why MS did so a month before and sony 4 months before.

As far as keeping the 13m they currently have, I don't think that has anything to do with the NX reveal being at E3 versus July-September. They have already announced that they're going to reveal the system this year, if waiting an extra few months to see it puts people off the system (without actually seeing it), they were never a reliable audience anyway. People are annoyed that they're not at E3 with the NX which is understandable because its what we expected, but that will be completely forgotten about once the system reveal datte is announced, just as Uncharted 4 being delayed from December 2015 to May 2016 is now a mute talking point. Anyone who holds gruges like that are in a completely ignorable minority.

Do something NOW. I don't care if it's release more WIi U games, or simply show some NX games but do SOMETHING. While the gaming world is moving forward with their consoles, and showing games, and upgraded hardware, and virtual reality, and price drops, and 3rd party partnerships  what is Nintendo doing? Showing us the worse version of an upcoming game announced two years prior.... Why?

Theres trailers of Zelda U from back in 2012.

Its 2016... its been 4 years since they announced it.

back in 2012:

This literally is not a game, its a tech demo.

There is a huge difference between Tech Demo for new console and actual game. That was tech demo not game.

If NX is really something special then it will definitely be very helpful. They are building hype towards the fans and if they make NX something awesome, fans will say that it was worth to wait.
Otherwise if NX is nothing special then it will be very hurtful for Nintendo because the fans will be angry and say that the hype Nintendo was building wasn't worth to wait.

I hate that there not showing NX at e3 but by not showing it they actually get more press not less! Just look at this discussion and the forums on this site and others. If they reveal the NX all of these speculation talk about power, controller, games, and price are gone! And then the talk will be even with the big three if not more for Ms and Sony because there products are on store shelves this year. If Nintendo keeps quite for a few more months were going to keep talking about it more and more. Just think if ps4k/xbox1.5 get revealed at e3 will talk more if NX isn't revealed about the potential power it could have and how it will compare to the newer models.

They could not reveal the NX for 10 years and it would be fine. The layman had no idea it was announced. In one year, no one is going to remember or care that there was a wait. As long as the actual reveal is done right, they can wait however long they please.

i think getting the launch right is the most important thing for a new console. if the launch fails there really is no turning the ship around,.. the console will be a failure for the rest of the generation.

that said,..
..i think it was probably a bad idea to announce NX 1 full year before any details to disclose can be announced and 2 full years before the hardware is released.

..i think not detailing the hardware at E3 is fine so long as the reveal is done well. having the entire stage to yourself instead of sharing it with other announcements can be a good thing.

..i think only having zelda to talk about this E3 is a bad thing. kind of go back to the first statement,.. they announced NX to early which is causing feelings of bitterness over wiiU's minimal support in these final 2 years. making your customers feel abandoned with wiiU will make many of their loyal customers second guess if they should invest in NX.

..i think missing the holiday is a bad thing but not having games at launch is worse. who knows where nintendo is right now but they better be prepared to support it the first year (moreso than ps4 or xbox one) to try and earn some trust back that they lost.

..i think the worst mistake nintendo can make is to be as secretive with 3rd parties as they are with consumer. as a consumer it is fun to be surprised. business does not respond well to surprises. they need a detailed plan years in advance to properly plan our their projects and budgets. it is much better to have leaks and 3rd party support than to have a surprising reveal but no games on your system.

But essentially who is talking about it right now? People who either know for a fact they aren't getting it, or people who know for a fact they are. They're not really hitting any new territory. Even the people who are supposedly undecided know for a fact what they are looking for, and if the NX doesn't meet their expectations they aren't going to be buying (and spoiler alert, it's not going to be what these people want).

Waiting until after E3 to announce also doesn't really help the situation, as the marketing campaigns for whatever Sony and Microsoft have planned for holiday 2016 are going to be taking over. I don't really understand how people think after E3 is going to be this safe zone. I mean, around the same time they announce a new $300-$400 system with the standard 1st party titles (with maybe a 3rd party or two in there somewhere with no dlc or special edition), Sony will be flooding the market with $250 holiday PS4 specials, PS4 Neo, and VR promotions. Even if we say the Neo isn't confirmed for this year, still a $250 console and VR are going to be one hell of a thing for most people to pass up for a new Nintendo system if they normally aren't Nintendo gamers.

Heck, I'm as big of a fan as a Nintendo fan can get, but do you think I can recommend a new Nintendo system? Lol, HELL NO! There haven't been any amazing announcements in over 2 years, the software droughts have been absolutely ridiculous, and Nintendo doesn't even care enough about the Wii U owners to give them the slightest bit of support for roughly two years until their next console is released.

I'd say if it is something really special they don't need to try and avoid E3.

Who gives a shit who's talking about it right now? It's an unrevealed device that is literally just a two letter codename, obviously the only people who are talking about it at the moment are nerds on the internet.
