i'm guessing all of the toy game toys belly up soon (including amiibo).

Really depends on the reveal of the NX as to if it will have Amiibo's in mind or if they're going to move in a whole other direction, the "NEW" 3DS will still support them for the new few years regardless of home console status I guess, but the NX could turn Amiibo's great or leave them to be forgotten as a part of the mistake which was the Wii-U

xbox one had kinect "in mind" and it still went "belly up".  consumers will choose if amiibo is still relavant not nintendo.

Aye of course, still though, if they design a system where Amiibo makes sense then they will be here for a few years to come, but if they associate Amiibo with Wii-U's failure then they could be boxed up and finished in a move to fully move away from that system, Absolutely last thing they'll want is another case of people being unsure if this is a new console or an addon for the Wii/Wii-U again, the more it has in common with such a failure will only hurt its image.

Well, I enjoyed Disney Infinity 3.0, so I'm sad about it. I though Disney would push hard in the videogame business. Well, they're still swimming in gold so... XD

LTD sales of Disney Infinity 3.0 as of March 2016 NPD were 1.194 million, while the equivalent sales of Disney Infinity 2.0 as of March 2015 were 1.720 million. That's a decline of -31%. Toy sales were also falling off a cliff.

It was just a matter of time.

 

Skylanders is going to meet the same fate. The latest version of Skylanders has only sold 741.5K in the USA so far according to NPD figures, down -47% from last year's Skylanders.
                               

Will be interesting to see how the reduced competition changes things.

 

2011 - Skylanders

2012 - Skylanders

2013 - Skylanders & Disney Infinity

2014 - Skylanders & Disney Infinity & Amiibo

2015 - Skylanders & Disney Infinity & Amiibo & LEGO Dimensions

2016 - Skylanders & Amiibo

 

If Skylanders still sees lower sales this year will be the end of the toy-to-life genre.

Unfortunate, since I think this type of game is a really good idea, despite not buying it myself..

If Nintendo did this with their Amiibos, it would be pretty amazing in my opinion
