Forums - Nintendo Discussion - EA on NX support: "If it makes sense for us - we'll be there"

I take this as we'll release some ports and titles that sell well on Nintendo consoles anyway but not our big hitters.

It all depends on Nintendo. The ball is in their court.

Thats just it.... why is it like this?

With sony, 3rd party dont go "we ll wait and see how things turn out".

They support the system from the start (which in turn helps the system sell).

3rd party dont treat nintendo the same way.

Because the way Nintendo and Sony have historically treated third parties is like night and day.

Nintendo's history is well known.  There really is no reason to list everything from the past but, as an example, EA was once ready to go PC-only until Sega came along, simply because Nintendo was choking the life out of developers.  Yeah, that was a long time ago but some of that attitude still remains.

On the other hand, Sony and Microsoft treat third party developers and publishers like business partners.  They create an environment that is beneficial to them and they maintain constant communication.  It's not just about total installed base.  Sony and Microsoft have helped developers build consumer bases that follow their products and they've done it consistently over generations.  The problem for Nintendo is that they haven't done that so now third parties would have to start from scratch.  Is it worth it?  I'm willing to bet they've run a lot of projections and know far better than we would.

Imagine if console were malls and Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo were mall developers.

Nintendo builds a mall.  They tell retailers, "you can come rent a space now."  Most of the customers just come for the Nintendo brand store, though, and Nintendo doesn't give the retailers any more thought.

Sony and Microsoft don't just build a mall, though.  They talk to retailers about location, unit size, parking, lighting, and everything else first.  Then they build the mall.  After that, they run programs to pull in customers to the retailers, they help with the advertising, and they do their best to support the entire mall instead of just the Sony/Microsoft brand store.

Is that how Nintendo is going to be for the NX?  I don't know.  However, they would still have to fight all that history.  Nintendo would have to go above and beyond just to reach parity, if it's even possible at this point.

I think it reads NO, they are not supporting it unless it proves otherwise, but it's not the way it works
In order for it to succeed it needs support all the way, I think Nintendo should try again with EA, FIFA-NX bundle in Europe, and/ or Madden-NX bundle in US would do great for the system

I guess being cryptic is an improvement over a flat out no.

Though if you hold IPs with mass-market-appeal like Star Wars, Madden, and FIFA the question of whether or not you should be on NX should have an obvious answer.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Morning shows the day. This is still vague. But if we take EAs worlds as no this shows third party confidence over NX.

Pretty stark contrast to their "unprecedented partnership". Doesn't exactly bode well for EA support for NX, though its really on Nintendo to convince them if they truly want more 3rd party support this time around.

I'd actually say that it's more convincing that they're being reasonable. Let's be honest - the "unprecedented partnership" claim never really made sense, as EA was never likely to give Nintendo any notable exclusives or special treatment. It was basically them wanting to be the ones running the online store, which was never going to happen.

EA are probably going to take the same approach with NX as they did with Wii U - port some easy, lacklustre titles across as a "test", and if the system does well enough, and people buy their crap, they'll do more lacklustre ports. And if the system doesn't do well enough, or people buying NX don't buy the weak ports because they're inferior, EA will call it proof of no market and stop supporting it.

But the fact that they're not talking big suggests that they're not going to try to make grandiose claims that bite them in the arse. So at least they'll be a little more honest about their approach, this time.

As always, I call BS on that one unless someone supplies a souce beyond an anonymous redddit post.  That makes no sense whatsoever.

I still think that Andromeda will have exclusive marketing rights on NX maybe.

In other words, "if it sells like the Wii U we arnt wasting our time, if it sells like the ps4 then it'll be worth our time"
Personally I can't see the NX selling very well, maybe on par with the WiiU or just slightly better.

Maybe. Sounds so pussy. Not bald enough. You need to grow a pair of balls my friend.

When you predict stuff like this you need to go all out!
