I don't need to make a case, I just asked him if he ever worked in PR, buddy. Not flaming, nor is explaining how he is making his point, explaining the techniques used.

Why was he moderated for this? It's a Microsoft quote.

There is a link to the website that has a youtube video of the person saying it at the 2013 E3. In case any mods want to watch it.

I'll admit that I wasn't aware of the meme when I issued the warning, but I still believe that the joke is in poor taste.

Honestly, there's a lot of posts in here attacking the Kinect brand. Like CGI has said, let's keep it civil. Debating the long-term viability of the brand is fine...trashing the technology or the brand itself is not.

It's not his fault the original qoute was in poor taste

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

It wasn't in poor taste. At all. You need to grow a thicker skin. Feel free to moderate this post too.

Honestly, the Kinect is/was a great idea. There is a reason why it broke sales records, it was something people hadn't seen before, it was risky, and the promotion worked. And the peripheral really produced some great series in Kinect Sports and Dance Central. However, the community as a whole is certainly not active enough to justify producing motion based games that wont sell (with the exception of the afore mentioned series). Theres nothing wrong with Kinect, its just the core gaming community doesn't want it. But owning an Xbox One without Kinect is just silly.

Well while I completely agree that kinect did not deliver the experience that was being marketed by Microsoft. Marketing it like they did was actualy great, they sold a hell lot of units and selling a hell lot of units is the only reliable way to get dev interested in the device. Unfortunatly and understandably the device never got past the 'gimmick' state as it received mainly shovelware and integration that were only meant to use the word 'kinect' for pr spin.

The real issue with kinect was Mattrick
Before Mattrick, Xbox was literaly on fire (not only because of RROD XD), the lineup was full of new ips, Microsoft was trying hard to get into Japan (and yes they achieved some results), and Xbox live was way ahead of the competition.
When Mattrick took over he literaly put an end to all those to focus on Kinect. Very few new ips, end of 'Japanese push', Xbox Live was caught by competition.
The only reason he was allowed to do this was because he was IMO wrongly (or at least way too much) credited for bringing the Xbox 360 from 25m units to 80m units and Mattrick himself credited to much Kinect for this success which also led to the crappy reveal of the Xbox One.

But in the end I did enjoy some title like the first kinect sports.

Painful to watch indeed. I have a feeling that in 5 years, we will watch todays VR craze while cringing.

No need to wait, this awesome youtuber already has VR covered

The big difference here is that video shows a single guy dealing with a piece of technology he obviously doesn't even want to enjoy, while the other one shows us lots of people trying so hard to make us believe you can enjoy a certain piece of technology.

You know what's not silly though? Owning a Kinect without a Xbox.

I agree that the technology was interesting, and i'm pretty sure a big part of it's sales success was that it was bought because it could be easily hacked to be used as a cheap motion capture device for a lot of different applications beyond the Xbox. I have even seen them used in German amusement parks with virtual video walls.

If there is nothing wrong with Kinect, why did the non core crowd stop buying it?
Might it have just been a fad, spurred on by the Wii popularizing motion controls together with amazing marketing?

What games on XBox one justify the add on? Why is it silly to have an XBox One without it?

Cool.

But I'm still glad I got my kinect bundle, it makes the XO a complete multimedia package. Can't imagine my xbox one without it.

Hope they release an RTS with Kinect controls at one point. It did make MS a shit tone of money at the end of the day and there is still some gaming potential with the thing.

There is no gaming potential, i would bet there will never again be another kinect focused game. Its a dead peripheral.
