Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Um, NX was NOT delayed!

People are claiming that NX was delayed because of software and 14nm chips. More than likely the real reason was to give investors profit boners. For me it seems a little convenient that it is releasing basically on the 1st of a new fiscal year.

This was planned, and the console was never delayed.

The delay claim tbh is one I feel that's being thrown around to make up for why it wasn't released during the period they thought it would. Imo Nintendo had a few options for when to release and chose March after looking at several factors like line up and so on.

No, the idea of it being delayed comes from Kimishima saying that NX was a major reason why they expect "Nintendo like profits" (¥100 billion) in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2017.

They have now announced that NX will release in March 2017 and no longer expect "Nintendo like profits".

He didnt say so. He only said that they chose March 2017 because they wanted to have games ready for launch. That doesnt mean they had a holiday 2016 release at first.

You know how games get delayed? A lot?
And you know how holidays are ideal for consoles?

1+1=?

No one aims for a March console release. The target they tell their investors is holiday season. That is very likely what they told their investors in early 2014.

These things go public. We would have known that. A holiday release for the WiiU didnt do much.

Actually the Wii U's launch was OK sales wise, it was the post launch months (Jan/Feb/March) where it started to get ugly.

No they don't. We din't find out a date for the NX until Nintendo publically announced it. Same thing with Playstation 4 and Xbox One, etc.

And WiiU would have done worse than it already did if they had released it in March instead.
No one said holiday release = guaranteed success, 80M+ LTD. Just that holidays are the obvious target as they are ideal. That's why every console release targets the holiday season for as many markets they can.

The investors also got the news of the release date when we did. It was an investor meeting after all.

Also if the holiday season was so important, then they could have waited another 6 months to release it.

Do you know an investor who claimed there was no release date for the console previously? Source on that in that case.

Nintendo update their investors on new numbers all the time.

Do you know an investor who claimed he did know the release date?

I'm saying obvious things. Investors are told details.
You're making things up that make no sense.

If they want investors to give them money, they need to give them details.

Investors are told things at the investor meetings. Its not hard to understand. Why would Nintendo have an investor meeting if they already told the investors everything...?

I already told you.

"Nintendo update their investors on new numbers all the time."

Do you know how many times Nintendo have updated their investors on their forecasts for WiiU sales, gradually lowering them each time?

Sales =/= Release dates

Sales =/= Release dates

Investors meetings =/= only about sales.
And for the record, release dates are correlated to sales.

Investors won't give you money unless you present them with a concrete plan. That's not business. That's fantasy.
They want to know how, why and when. How much it's going to cost, when they can expect to make a profit on it, etc. So in short, yes. They have to tell them their projected release dates. Those projections end up being changed along the way though. But Nintendo already got the money from them at that point. All that remains is to keep them happy with a return on their investment.

THATS what the investor meeting is about. THATS why they have them. Christ dude...
