Forums - Nintendo - NX launches March 2017 Globally

Nintendo continues to disappoint. March release makes sense if PS4K and PS VR are both coming out this holiday. But why skip E3? That's only 8-9 months before launch. Unless they reveal it just before the show it's gonna get swamped by the post E3 reveals, big game launches like FFXV and marketing ramp up for PSVR and PS4K. The next 6 months after E3 are gonna be busy. All of them will have momentum starting from E3 and Nintendo is gonna skip it?

So rumors were true that Nintendo will talk about NX today!
I think it is a very bad decision by Nintendo to release NX after holidays because it will cost NX a lot sales.
And Wii U and 3DS won't sell good this year (especially Wii U sales will drop very hard now after people know it will be replaced by Nintendo next year). Going to be a very very hard year for Nintedo. And E3 2016 will probably be again as boring as last year as it seems...

Can it play WiiU and wio games? I need to know if i sell up now

I dunno to me this sounds pretty different:

http://time.com/4129171/nintendo-tatsumi-kimishima/

“I can assure you we’re not building the next version of Wii or Wii U,” he says. “[NX] is something unique and different. It’s something where we have to move away from those platforms in order to make it something that will appeal.”

Maybe Kimishima is full of shit, but maybe he's not.

Iwata also said they could not show the NX because it was a completely new concept and they were afraid it would be stolen by competitors. This may also be why they are not showing at E3 this year. It's not like Zelda U is coming out this year, so why does that get to be at E3 but not NX?

The DeNA stock swap for more along the lines of $200 million USD.

This is the "mystery aquistion"

http://www.gamerevolution.com/news/nintendo-invests-100-million-in-mystery-acquisition-25707

Could be part of the DeNA deal, but maybe not.

No, it sounds like a change in brand. He's not full of shit. You're just not reading it correctly.

They're likely not showing it at E3 so they can announce it at their own venue. They've been taking measures to move away from E3 for half a decade. This is just more of that. It's probably what they meant by the "new Direct format, actually."

The aquisition was confirmed by Nintendo to be over $150 and not gaming related.

WTF!?!? It just keeps getting worse... This means they will have literally NOTHING new to announce. Since I was wanting to stay in the dark about Zelda U, I may aswell skip Nintendo's entire E3 show besides the Sun/Moon trailer. Like seriously, I'm not even sure if this E3 will even beat last year's and that's saying something with how bad it was.

Literally the first thing I thought was this. I don't even mind the NX delay, but the Zelda delay is going to be excruciating now that I'm on media black out.

Yeah, normally i get some days off during E3. Certainly for Nintendo presentation, but now i'm just not gonna bother. I'll just go to work i quess and make some money :-p.

Hey, now. My logic behind picking 2017 was more sound than those 2016 folk.

What logic? We 2016 folk may have gotten our claim wrong but our reasoning behind it is correct as proven by how a 2016 release really was their plan.

Technically people who said 2016 meant holiday 2016 and the 2017 guys meant holiday 2017 so the 2016 guys are closer month-by-month even if wrong by the year lol :P

I'm not going to say that Nintendo is making a mistake releasing NX in March because I don't know what are the reasons for this decision. After all, and as weird as it seems, March 2017 could have been the plan since the very beginning. But if it has been delayed from Xmas to March, I wouldn't put the blame on the hardware but on the software.

Nintendo can't afford to screw up NX launch like they did with Wii U, and that means not only having enough games at launch, but also during the first 3 to 6 months after launch. And software has been Nintendo's Achilles heel this whole gen, with their studios having a hard time adjusting to the new requirements of developing HD games, and I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo overestimated their software capacity again and had to delay the console to avoid the unacceptable game droughts.

Please excuse my bad English.

Everyone was talking about the launch year. Debating over the months after the launch window is revealed is just people trying to save face.

Unlikely, it's more likely this is simply like the 3DS launch all over again ... Nintendo wanted to launch for holiday 2010, but had to move it to Feb/March 2011 due to incomplete software.

Nintendo may be dense, but they're not full on stupid, I don't think they'd willingly choose a March release window over a Christmas/holiday season one, especially when the Wii U has fewer pending releases than VHS video cassette does.

Minus the NX + Zelda, 2016 is probably the worst release year I can remember for Nintendo, and I've been following playing every Nintendo console since the late 1980s. So I doubt Nintendo is stupid enough to purposely plan to have a horrific holiday 2016 to launch in March 2017 because ... they like St. Patrick's Day and figured launching during the all important St. Patrick's Day drinking season was ideal.

I would say yield problems with 14nm tech from AMD, Iwata's passing and the transition to Kimishima, and Nintendo's usual problems in dealing with generation shifts and delayed software launches that accompany that all easily could've resulted in a 3 month delay.
