Forums - Nintendo - Rock Band for the Wii

This makes me want to go get GH3. Does anyone know have details about the mono disk replacement status?

Mike from Morgantown

Replacement disk kits were shipped around a month ago.  If people sent the game in they have been playing the non-bugged version of GH3 for a while.  The company also offered more than full refunds to gamers.  Plus, some gamers were given free gifts.

Hamonix is shooting self in the foot doing this.

It is not Harmonix's fault that Nintendo is limiting the online features.

For everyone complaining about this and claiming you are going to get GH3 instead: Rock Band is still better and there's no DLC in sight for GH3. But then, I don't see why anyone would get either game for the Wii. GH3 has some nice DLC, too.

I already have 350MB of Rock Band game data, so it's not as if the Wii is even equiped to handle such a game. Just get a better system for it...PS3 or 360.

I'll be getting this for the Wii. Even if this isn't the best version, support for the Wii version will convince Harmonix that the Wii will be the place for this game in the future.

Guitar Hero III sold unbelievably on the Wii despite being in Mono.

Rock Band will sell relatively well too.

Neither game was made for the Wii and neither were expected to do terribly well on the Wii.

Hate to break it to you, but this genre of games are going to become the property of the Wii movement sooner or later. If DLC and online really mattered, the PS2 version of Guitar Hero III wouldn't be the best selling one.

I laugh at everyone saying Wii owners won't spend money on both Guitar Hero III and Rockband. By that logic, people who spent even more money on a PS3 or 360 would be even less likely to buy both of them. So, by your logic, the Wii versions will sell better than either console's versions.

Good that Wii`s games library widens..
But why there is no online play..that`s a big question.
Maybe they wanna hurry it to the market.

Don't buy it if you don't want it. I don't really see how they could do download content very effectively, since Nintendo hasn't even done that on first-party titles yet, with the exception of Smash I believe.

No, that's the problem. I do want it, but I want the best version of it. The Wii version could have been the best version for me instead of this crap.

What makes you think it could of been the best version?

They think if Wii owners want it they will buy it regardless. How good it is is irrelevant and they most certainly do not need to match the 360/PS3 versions (though the 360 version is best) because wii owners by and large simply don't care about DLC or online play. The few percent of wii owners who read gaming blogs and post on gaming forums and who know that this version is gimped will be negligible. Harmonix knew what they were doing with this. Paint it white, port the ps2 version, call it a day.

I agree with akuma587, nintendo needs to take DLC seriously (release a hard drive ffs) first before they can expect 3rd parties to do the same.

I hate to be doing this, seeing as how pissed I am with Harmonix and EA over this cash-in port, but I feel Rock Band deserves a little bit of defense here, some of which was thankfully mentioned by others.

1. Activision's decision to change the guitar and put the Wiimote inside is not Harmonix's fault. They are continuing to make full fledged peripherals the way they do on all three other versions of this game. It's Activision's fault for changing the design for the Wii version.

2. Partial blame needs to be given to Nintendo for any lack of online features and DLC in the Wii version. Nintendo has a less efficient online set-up than the Dreamcast created, and were talking almost 8 years ago. Nintendo keeps offering more and more DLC with no storage options for them. I'm not taking blame off Harmonix and EA for lack of either feature, but Nintendo seems to want to give developers as difficult a time as they can implementing these features into games.

With all that said, in regards to this game, fuck Harmonix, fuck MTV, fuck EA and fuck Nintendo.

That's bull.  As much as I hate Nintendo for their pathetic excuse for an online service, in this case it is not their fault.  Online play should work just fine with the Wii.  GH3 has done it since launch so there's no reason you shouldn't be able to play online with RB on the Wii.

As for DLC like others have said DLC has basically already been started in Japan with their WiiWare releases.  Nintendo hasn't mentioned any extra storage options yet but it's only a matter of time.  And unlike the GH3 devs who said "wait and see" for the DLC when they weren't sure what Nintendo was doing MTV has just shut the door for it.

This backlash wouldn't exist if they had just said "Well we're not planning DLC in the near future but if Nintendo can come out with a storage solution then maybe we'll look into it..."  But the fact that they said no combined with no online just confirms this is a quick and dirty PS2 port.  Think of it this way windbane: wouldn't you be upset if the PS3 version had gimped online to keep it on par with the Wii?  The Wii should not be gimped to save developmental costs by just porting the PS2 version over.

The thing most of the people on these boards don't realize is the typical type of person plays rockband could care less about online. Casuals will use online if they have it, but it is not a huge factor in their purchase. Core gamers like on here make online a much bigger deal. I have friends. I do not need online.
