The game's main issue is that while its dual screen mechanic can be adjusted to, it becomes actively annoying when the game forces you to multitask between the two screens under pressure, such as during the Aquarosa and Scrap Worm boss battles.

Ultimately the game would be better if the second screen had been jettisoned altogether.

Having said that, I don't think its quite enough to ruin the game. It does result in some frustrating sequences, but there's still fun to be had outside of these. I was having fun about 75% of the time, and irritated for the other 25%. Not ideal, but not a writeoff either.

Something tells me this might be one of those games I initially enjoy only for a late game difficulty spike to leave a lasting negative impression.

This game has totally killed the last bit of respect I had for Nintendo. Back in their heyday they would have refused to release something this shoddy but in 2016 they consider it a major release.
Rip Nintendo

(Maybe ill come around in a day or two lol)

That's entirely possible. The final boss is a bit of a headache. I breezed through the main game and then hit something of a brick wall. However on my second play through I took care of business on the first try.

@OP: is this the most polarizing Nintendo game in a decade? Some fans love it, some fans hate it, and, judging by the poll results, the majority of people are waiting to see what others think.

Andross is definitely not an easy task. Now, once you get it, the next playthrough will be easy for you. But in my case it was the level when the controls clicked to me and I got what they are trying to achieve.

Just finished my first run, really enjoyed it so far. Will definitely 100% the shit out of this game. It's currently the second best Starfox game IMO, right behind 64.

So, you guys said you don't like it ? :P

Seems like a rare Nintendo game that will drop in price rapidly as it seems like a game few will keep and after a few generations of secondhand copies I think the price will be very low. Could be wrong but I'm not hearing much positive about it. The range here seems to be from hate to ok and not much beyond.

I was looking forward to the game but the reviews and comments are a killer. It's now just merely a game I'd like to play at some point rather than being motivated to get quickly.

Maybe the reason Nintendo are throwing out half-baked games is all the real work is being done on an amazing NX launch line up. Here's hoping.

its a Star Fox shooting game. It will never be that cheap. Just as an example, Star Fox Assault for the Gamecube is a similarly mehhhh Star Fox game and the copies aren't magically really cheap because of that

Yeah, if anything the lower sales will make it a rare gem. I don't see this as being one of the NX ports, as it relies so heavily on the second screen.

Prepare to pay big money for this game used in a few years.

Star Fox SNES

Star Fox 64

Star Fox 64 3D

Star Fox Zero

...are all way too similar for my liking.

I really don't like how it's a "reimagining" with pretty much the same story and many of the same levels. Star Fox 64 was also a reimagining of Star Fox SNES...so this is basically a reimagining of a reimagining.

Why can't they come up with something brand new? I don't understand why Nintendo has been resting on their laurels so much lately.

Yep. Their last really ambitious games was Zelda Ocarina of time and maybe Mario 64 on N64. Which are the last 2 open-ish Zelda and Mario.

Galaxy games were OK, but still retrospectively disappointing IMO. I liked Zelda Winder and Splatoon is a success but I wouldn't call those games ambitious or innovative (they took the fludd device + octopus characters from Mario sunshine and did a MP game with it?).

I think the problem comes with inertia and a lack of will to innovate and develop something truly exceptionnal like they did during the N64 era. I blame Miyamoto . He is the main culprit IMO.

I can't disagree more with that. Galaxy games are considered masterpieces, and they're always candidates to be in a list of best games of all time. But your opinion is as valid as mine, obviously :P.

About innovation, I think, and that's also a personal opinion, that there isn't any company which I'd consider very innovative. I'd also dare to say that Nintendo might be the most innovative. And they can also be really conservative. I prefer their "innovative" side, sadly we don't see a lot of examples of that lately. They're playing safe.

The co-op is insanely fun, I'll say that. Separating the tasks you're meant to do at once makes the game feel much more solid. I still loathe the forced lock on in boss fights because the camera doesn't even try to give perspective at all, but whatever. It's solvable if you look at Gamepad when playing solo or have your partner shoot straight ahead in co-op.
