Forums - Gaming - Graphics are best on console because of limitation. Ps4 Neo will impact this negatively?

PS4 NEO should ...

Have better looking games. 19 10.61%

Just better performance. 21 11.73%

just 4k output. 10 5.59%

Extra power just fro VR and 4k. 20 11.17%

All of the above. 54 30.17%

None of the above, fuck the NEO, 55 30.73%

Total:179

Sony announced that they are requiring developers to have a single copy of the game that can play in "normal" mode and "neo" mode. Neo mode must be more graphically impressive than Normal mode but framerates must be consistent on both. Basically it will be twice as hard to publish a game on PS4s as soon as the Neo drops. it could even mean games will take up more storage space, need faster load times, and be delayed due to the extra time needed to develop for it.

I think if Sony is planning this then so is MS regardless of how they phrase their PR.

Once both companies launch a system all of the industry is being destroyed threads will cease and people will buy the upgraded version of their favored brand until a rumor that the other side is doing something else pops up.

l <---- Do you mean this glitch Gribble?  If not, I'll keep looking.

I am on the other side of my sig....am I warm or cold?

Marco....

Last answer there is incredibly childish and entitled.... "I don't want it, so nobody else should have the option"

PS4K / Neo is not taking anything from normal PS4, the games will release on PS4 as they would have normally.

So they shouldn't release a new Nintendo console cause they will be offending the WiiU owners and they are taking games from WiiU to launch with the new console.... BE PISSED! Hey everyone, lets be pissed.....

Xbox, they are releasing our exclusives on PC..... now they can be played by more people, lets be pissed.....

It's all really exhausting! Tired of the whole outrage culture of gaming.

The problem is unlike Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft are not game developers at heart, they are tech-companies and they do what their best at, producing impressive tech: beefy hardware for photorealistic games. It is no surprise therefore that Sony (and maybe Microsoft) come with updated consoles as they are used to it from their other markets: PC's, Notebooks, Tablets, Smartphones, TV's, etc.

Nintendo on the other hand makes games which are fun, which put a smile on your face. To achieve that, they don't need state of the art hardware. Nevertheless, Nintendo has learned unparalleled programming skills in making out the most of underpowered hardeware. Although, I think the NX will be beefy too but this is due to the change of the market. Today, the console market is dominated by Northamerica and Europe, Japan is left with a small market share and the Western gamers demand photorealistic graphics.

"Graphics are best on console because of limitation."

When in actual fact...

"Graphics are best on PC because of no limitation."

Yes, this will 100% absolutely give developers less incentive to push the hardware further. Why bother putting all the time, money and effort making the a base PS4 build look great when you can just use what's available to you in the PS4K?

If they develop with the PS4K as the main console, the Base PS4 becomes the "good enough" box, and by that I literally mean the least amount of effort to get the build to an acceptable level.

Why bother putting all the time, money and effort making the a base PS4 build look great when you can just use what's available to you on a high end PC?

There are 60m Xbox Ones and PS4's already in people's homes. Why would PS4k become the main development platform with zero installbase and no option for additional income for developers? They have every incentive to make sure the VAST majority of their audience aren't recieving poorly optimised games which will surely be pointed in reviews.

Theres a reason why PC games on Ultra look very similar to console versions, developers do not optimise for the most powerful hardware, they optimise for the most popular.

I laughed... Then realised you were being serious.

The difference between the PS4 and most Multiplats on Ultra on the PC is larger than the difference between the Xbox One and PS4.

Fact of the matter is, devs already make "upgraded" versions of games for the PC, the Neo will take advantage of that thanks to it's beefier hardware... For Multiplats anyway.

You don't understand what I'm saying with that, when devs work to optimize for specific specs magical things happen, effects and graphical trickage that becomes the norm, if power were no obsticle devs like Ubisoft would just invest in lazer envirment scanning tech and have away with the art team, it would work out much cheaper in the long run. And before you reply, just look at these videos I was kind enough to reply to an earlier poster on here, the first ones a joke put just look at that second one.

I'll ignore that trolling video.

No, magical thing's don't/didn't happen.

It's amazing the kind of graphical leap that console multiplats had once this new generation came about, thanks to the lowest common denominator finally catching up to low end/mid-range gaming PC's... Before that, because of the restrictions that we had to endure... Games looked ugly.

And it's starting to happen again, PC's are so far advanced and constantly improving, that games are starting to stagnate graphically rather than "wow" thanks to the consoles limited hardware capabilities holding back multiplats.

The point of only having two competing consoles (and why it's a good thing) is that they're similar. They develop to optimize for one, then the push it to get it running on the other is relatively easy. Now they got to optimize for one and get it running on two separate consoles, three if you count NX... and a pc port.... Basically a few are going to get screwed. We see it time and time again with multi platform releases. Look at Arkham Origins, a game that released on 4 seperate platforms.

Now while there are other examples, like Call Of Duty Ghosts which released on like... 6 different platforms (cross gen, multiplat, on Wii U, and on PC) run "fine" for the most part, still some versions were extremely gimped as far as dlc (Wii U) or performance (PS3/Xbox 360), and updates for versions taking long periods of time.

There are definitely problems with introducing several platforms to the market.

LOL, just joking...

But really....

Tomb Raider was developed primarily for Xbox One, a system weaker then PS4. Its great you brought up Tomb Raider because it shows the reality of whats in store for PS4k games versus this crazy fantasy that people have.

That doesn't really need saying. The graphical difference between Xbox One and PS4 is neglible to begin with, so you're not really countering my point.
