4K is a feature, many games won't use it, if they support 4K and some games can use it that is great. You see this future proves the console and makes the games better in the future. However many games, like Zelda and stuff will obviously not support 4K because the highest end pc's are having trouble running games in 4K.

So yes, I think it would be a great thing if the NX supports it and possible Pikman is one of the games to use it but in all honestly, the market share using a 4K tv and the power needed its not a make or break situation.

PS4K maybe will at certain genres like fighting games

It may sounds harsh, but you're maybe delusionnal about the capabilities of the PS4 slim being capable of 4k gaming.

So Digital Foundry is delusional?

NX won't be 4k, there's no way to make a device capable of 4k gaming at a reasonable price yet, not even close. If my 3000$ rig can't handle it; no 300-500$ console will for quite some time.

What if they kept visual fidelity basically exactly the same as the Wii U game but just bumped resolution to 4K?

That's what? 8x as many pixels to render?

I would be happy if the NX was around the same Specs as a Xbox One.

But a 4K machine? No I don't think it will happen.

I was hoping to see Pikmin 4 on the WiiU......

PS4.5 won't have games to play at 4K.
The NX won't have games to play at 4K.
The PS5 won't have games to play at 4K.
The NX2 won't have games to play at 4k.

This 4K meme needs to stop, Sony and Nintendo ain't releasing a 1200$ console.

4K is 9x the pixels of 720p, so to make a game identical to Pikmin 3 run at 4K, you would need a system 9x more powerful.

Assuming the Wii U is 300 GFLOPS or so, that would put the requirement for a Pikmin 4K using identical assets as the Wii U version at 2.7 TFLOPS.

Teraflops isn't an accurate denominator for gauging total system performance as rendering a game is more than just floating point math.
You can have a GPU which is 1,000 Teraflops and a GPU which is 10 Teraflops, if the 10 Teraflop GPU has superior Texturing, Bandwidth etc'.
Then it will win every time for gaming.
For example... Take the Radeon 5870 and Radeon 6970. Both have roughly the same "Gflops". - The Radeon 6970 will win pretty much every time, because it is a better balanced GPU.

With that said... I don't see why the NX wouldn't support a HDMI standard newer than HDMI 1.4, thus 4k would be entirely possible, albeit likely restricted to more casual/arcade/simple games.

Fun fact, the Xbox One and Playstation 4 could also do 4k, it has the capability, but the framerates would be limited to 30fps due to the HDMI 1.4 limitation... Performance is another matter entirely, which is why we don't see it used for gaming. You get what you pay for.

Well, they could have less demanding games run in 4K on these consoles.

For example some Telltale Games, Point&Click adventures, Lego games, Rayman games, Visual Novels, many indie games...
