Forums - Sony - Digital Foundry: PS4K/Neo Spec Leak Genuine, Dev Kits On Their Way To Devs

Yeah, and thats what frightens me.Sony has been playing all its cards perfectly until now, so Ill give them the benefit of the doubt.

Looking on the bright side, if Sony does screw up, this is a once in a lifetime chance for Nintendo, as they can use that slip-up to market the NX, just like Sony got a huge advantage with microsoft initial dumb choices with XOne.

Sony won't screw up, but that won't help the PS4K against the NX. Nintendo doesn't need its competitors to fail in order to come out on top with that thing. NX will be that industry changing.

Not that it dosent need, but it would certainly help.I have faith in NX too, but we have only a vague idea of what it is, and even then we all could be wrong. So any help that nintendo can bring, the better.

Well, as long as it gets the same games and they are playable, I don't really have a problem with it.

Thats where the problem lies.Being playable is different from having a really good experience with a game.

Exactly, while people will be praising how great the game felt at a locked 60fps, About 35 million will have no idea what they are talking about being they are gonna be experiencing it at a fluxuating frame rate. God help them if games are no longer optimized for the original PS4.

Games will most likely be optimised for the original PS4. That way they can use the extra headroom of the PS4 NEO anyway they want without it needing any real optimising. It's less work than optimising for the more powerfull system and than downgrade that and again optimize for the weaker system.

Also we are only talking faster components here, not an increase in cpu cores/memory size or a new architecture. Developers can't create a completely new experience with just speeded up hardware. Even just native 4k resolution or higher res textures would at the very least require more RAM.

lol, we know nothing about the system really. It's more likely Sony demolishes Nintendo the same way they crushed the GameCube. 40 million headstart + 4TFLOP system for $399? Good luck Nintendo.

Nintendo pretty much always makes hardware mistakes anyway, you're just basking in the honeymoon period where we don't know enough about the system and think it's going to be perfectly designed; it won't be.

Yes, we know nothing about it, but you go to say that the PS4K is surely going to beat it, without having any official information on both of them?lol

PS2 beat Gamecube yeah, but then the Wi came and kicked PS3 butt. There is a precedence for both scenarios to happen.

If Nintendo has a controller miracle that's going to change the industry, sure, and even Wii vs PS3, the PS3 finished very close to the Wii. The other three Sony consoles have absolutely demolished their Nintendo counterparts and there is nothing in the history of the game business that has shown one platform overtaking another with a 40 million unit headstart, if you give the PS3 a 40 million unit lead, even the Wii is not coming back against that.

So lets be real here, Sony has some serious advatanges. Beyond that, Nintendo will likely fuck up some major aspect of the NX if we're talking precedence. They always do and have making poor hardware designs for a long time now.

Talking sheer numbers, sure it got "close"(an 20 million gap is still big though), but we know that it goes far beyond that.Im talking about profits sure. But lets stop here, otherwise it will derail the thread.

I mean yeah, you do have a point.Hardware-wise speaking, they have been behind Sony and Microsoft since the Wii, and though thats not the most important part in my opinion, they have alot of catching up to do.Not only in hardware of course, but lso in online aspects, regaining third party trust and so on.But Nintendo has been longer in the industry andthey are no fools, they are familiar with failures and know when to admit them to try and make better next time.So for that point I think Nintendo deserves the benefit of the doubt.

And the Nintendo knows it needs to compete with an install base of 40 million PS4 and 20 million XOne.I really doubt they will just ignore that and make the same mistakes again, like having a barebones first year. And if the NX is at the very least as powerful as the PS4K, and the romours that the normal PS4 will be able to play games normally, there is no reason gamers(no special reason anyway) to get the PS4K over NX, at least the PS4K version when there will be a cheaper one available that basically does the same thing.

Assuming Sony dont make any mistakes with the PS4K, and it truly is an upgraded PS4, I see it selling just for the Sony enthusiast, because otherwise people will simply choose the cheaper version.

I think Sony will end up selling more regular PS4's as they will drop in price most probably, whilst some harcore who have the money will trade in their PS4's for the new one and pay on top.

GameStop will have a field day with trade ins and Sony will get to shift both models. It's a win win.

We know know more than enough about the NX to know that neither Sony nor Microsoft have anything in the immediate future that will be able to compete against it. Just because you can't connect the dots doesn't mean I can't. It'll be quite the opposite. The PS2 dominated that generation because it had a DVD player. The NX will have a similar dynamic with being a smart console and smart handheld. It won't have a big controller gimmick, and it won't need one. The platform will sell it.
