Forums - General - Irrational fear towards Arabic

When I hear somebody say "Allah," I don't panic because of the Arabic word or Islam. I panic because discussions about religion rarely end well unless everyone involved already respects one another. If I heard somebody talking about Jesus on a regular basis, I would be keeping an eye out for possible escape routes.

Arabic writing is nice looking, I'll give you that. I prefer Hebrew characters aesthetically, but they can be a bitch with the vowels sometimes. I can't say I know much about how Arabic compares in that regard.

Allah's literal translation from Arabic to English is "God".
Islam's religion is based on the same fork (with it's own twist) as Christianity and Judaism.

The Quran for instance shares over 50 of the same characters and events as the Bible.

I m American and everytime I observe a person speaking Aribic, US citizens come running out offering, food, places to stay, family members, money etc to them-  They then compliment them on how beautiful the aribic language sounds and compliment them in geneneral-   so before you say something as ignorant as "get it together America"  why don t you check your facts  because I guarantee you all or even most of the counry does not act nervous when they hear Arabic

I always love the " i am being wrongly thought of" by an entire nation-

But.....if you want to help convince those people who "seem to you nervous" when you speak Arabic, then consider finding a camera and a mic and condem Araic terrorist when they strike-   it would be great pr and it does not happen enough

Lmao you know I wasn't being 100% serious about "get it together America"?

I'm just saying some people will have negative feelings about Arabic for no reason.

(Just quoting you as you probably want to read this)

Thank you. Finally someone that makes logical sense and capable of rational reasoning! I'm white and I never understood the hate towards the Muslim peoplw in the first place. Even more so when Christians talk hate about them. The reality is that there are Christian fundamentalist as well, remember the Crusades. Fuck... if those assholes still existed today, imagine what they would do with rifles and bombs.

Let's not forget that the Ku Klux Klan is a Christian organisation. That's as radical as they come. Yet most people don't even take this in consideration or as reality. I live in Edmonton Alberta. Back in Febuary we had a group going protest in Churchill Square promoting the idea that it is 100% okay to rape woman. They were advocating pro-rape. You can read about this here: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/extreme-misogynistic-group-denounced-in-edmonton-1.3431916

"The founder of Return of Kings, a "neo-masculinist movement," Valizadeh's writings have suggested that sexual assault on private property be legalized, encourages men to pursue women with eating disorders and believes North American culture trains women to be "big-mouthed, rude, and disrespectful.""

In the end we have hate on both sides of the coin. One is far more advertised than the other, and both are very bad. Most people think that this whole terrorist stuff started around 9/11, but it really dates back to Baghdad with the bombings, and more things that I'm not going to mention to avoid a political debate. The worst of it is the fact that we created these terrorist organisation, this much people get right. We didn't do through some "conspiracy theory" we did it by bombing the fuck out of their countries. We created an enemy with nothing to lose. We killed their children, we killed their mothers and their fathers, we killed their brothers and sisters, we killed their aunts and uncles, their grandparents, friend's and cousins. In other words, we created an enemy that has nothing at all left to lose. They couldn't care less if they "die" after the feeling that they have nothing left to live for. Let's also not forget the whole Palestine and Israel issue that's been going on for far longer than most people realise.

I think it should also be pointed out that the Quran forbids suicide bombing or suicide in general, amogst other things ISIS has been doing. It bar's them from going to heaven. The OP is correct. Allah is just another name for god, and according to the Christian bible. Jerusalem is Jesus's home land. So technically speaking, we are killing  Jesus's people. This is a big no no for Christians. Both sides are being hypocritical, and if we are for a moment, to take religion for granted. Everyone who supports this war is going straight to hell. "Go straight to hell, do not pass go, do not collect your golden ticket to heaven."

The entire situation is absolutely fucked up from both sides of the equation. So no, I don't hate Muslims because not every single one of them is a radical. According to the math of the Muslim population, less that 1% of them are part of a terrorist organisation. LESS THAN 1%. Actually it's roughly 0.4% to be more concise. With that math, there are actually more Christian fundamentalist. So if we are taking things for granted. White people are the evil of this world :/ This is a royally fucked up concept. Didn't Jesus preach "Love your enemy's" or something like that? Shit... most of us are dumber than a doorknob.

I don't hate any race, nor am I afraid of any races. I'm 100% anti-raciest and cannot understand the concept behind it. Not even remotely. I can't even believe that this is even a thing take exists in peoples minds. We share this world and we are willingly, on our own terms, tearing it apart.

PS. Here's a very good song that people should listen to. It very much applies to the issues. Brilliant lyrics.

Wait, I never said anything about Muslims.

Didn't you see the part when I said Arabic isn't a language only for Muslims?

Why do we have to make this another religious thread .-.

Are you sure you're not overreacting? Im not you so i dont know how exactly people were looking at you but I would probably give a quick glance over at anyone speaking a different language around me just because im not use to it.

I'm exaggerating. I'd probably say it's not that often I get disgusted looks, but I still find it weird.

Get it together America.

GET.

IT.

TOGETHER.

How about - Muslims, Arabs, GET IT TOGETHER. It's not America/Europe/India/China/Christian-parts-of-Africa that is the problem. It's the Muslim world and its antics that is the problem. Stop blaming others for the results of the actions by members of your group. Change the Muslims, change Islam and others will react to the change, nobody wants to be prejudiced against Arabs/Muslims just for the sake of it. Until that, until Muslims kill a Christian for his faith every 3 minutes, stop blaming us for being rational.

What the fuck does Muslims have to do with speaking Arabic? i said in the original post that you don't need to be Muslim in order to speak Arabic.

Otherwise, I agree. Arabs are humiliating. Truly are.

White guilt is everywhere. But American's shouldn't fear arabs as long as they aren't as stupid as the Europeans in terms of integrating them. The Europeans on the other hand; well god help them! What they've done is set about the distruction of their society by allowing muslims to split off and take over chunks of their societies. But I don't want to go off-topic, so that's for a different time.

As someone living in Europe there has been 0 difference in my day to day life so you may be exaggerating a bit there..

No, speaking Arabic does not make you a terrorist. But apparently it makes your skin thinner to the point where you can't deal with people staring at you as you talk to someone on the phone. Most people would say such an occurence is commonplace, after all.

Also, I find it quite humorous that you of all people would make a thread like this, considering a post of yours from the past.

I don't feel hurt from the stares, but I feel confused(and ticked off when they stare several times).

Sorry OP, but chances are, before a plane goes down, bomb goes off, shots are fired into the public... the last words people heard were ''Alah''.

There is good reason for people to be afraid.

There is no good reason to fear someone speaking a language. That's like someone being scared of the German language for fear of them being a nazi.

Fear terrorists and terrorism, not a language.

Edit: when shots are fired in the public in America it's usually some kid shooting the place up. Domestic terrorism has killed more people on America in the past 10 years than Islamic terrorism. The Flu kills motor Americans than terrorism.

And you know what, OP.

I am sure many have their reasons to fear certain groups of Arabs.

If my girlfriend drove a car in Saudi Arabia, she'd be in trouble.

If my gay Arabic friend expressed his love on the phone, in a public place in any Arabic country, he'd in big trouble.

If my transgender friend walked the streets wearing make up and showing his facial hair, he'd be in big big trouble.

Hell, somewhere in Iraq and Syria, you might get killed if a certain group of Arabic terrorists found out that you are following the "wrong" sector of Islam.

I don't even have to go that far, I've seen it first hand in the UK. Arabic Muslims enjoy our country because we are tolerant of their right to be as prejudiced against Jews and as homophobic as they please. They enjoy it in ways they couldn't in their Arabic speaking countries.

So many troubled places in this world, and the West still has so many miles to go when it comes to morality progress. I have to wonder what that means for most Arabs. Time to ask your people to get it together no?
