Forums - Nintendo - Speculation: Nintendo NX Portable To Use 10nm, 2017 Launch?

"console" is a broad term, it could mean anything from home console to handheld console to tv consoles with some some additional game functions.

So it could be almost anything: a new Nvidia Shield handheld, a new Nvidia Shield TV, a new Amazon Fire TV, a new Apple TV, a new Nintendo handheld, a new Sony handheld, a new PSTV (1080p / 4k), a new revision to an existing device...

That doesn't seem like something Nintendo would do tbh.

An extremely power efficient ARM processor for the next Nintendo handled, running a forked version of Android and getting all those Google Play store games. A potential Nintendo smartphone while we are at it. That could work.

TSMC has failed to deliver on its promises for 28, 20 and 16nm processes, with all of them facing delays and worse than expected yields. Counting on them to keep their promises to launch any kind of device is a very, very risky move for anyone.

I don't think Nintendo can afford that risk.

Please excuse my bad English.

Because Nintendo is known to jump on the newest and most expensive tech.

Sounds more like Nvidia Shield.

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

It makes no sense for a console maker to use the latest cutting edge technology, when they are using lower end hardware. I would rather they just gives us a higher end cpu/gpu with existing tech.

I'm sure Nintendo could get a decently priced portable machine close to the 360-WiiU power without the need of cutting-edge tech. Plus, Nintendo handhelds need to be cheap, the 3DS had a horrible start due to that.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

i think the horrible start was more do to the fact that the software lineup sucked until Mario Land & Mario Kart (and Monster Hunter in Japan) released which was like 8-9 months after launch.

Saying it could be Nvidia is a bit of a stretch. It seems like Nintendo. Maybe a Sony product.

Why would Nintendo do it? Should be obvious that Nintendo is trying to leverage their handheld dominance into the console space with united software. Doing so would result in a huge install base and, presumably, widespread 3rd party support.

For the model to work, NX home is going to need to match competitors and NX away is going to have to be able to play the same games. A cutting edge, expensive handheld may be a risk, but it's a necessary one. Especially with cutting edge phones and tablets on the market. Times have changed for Nintendo.

Agreed. Being able to leverage their portable userbase to be able to get modern third party games is the crown jewel for Nintendo if they can pull it off.
