We'll be able to better see how much legs the movi has after this week-end. Weather might be the excuse in the UK. It's not in Australia, for example. So, we'll see whether it can reach the heights of The Avengers.

It won't reach The Avengers. It wouldn't anyway but with X-Men around the corner it will not even come close.

But not sure how this is a problem, it's a Captain America movie after all. Maybe if it wouldn't be called Captain America it could have a chance^^

It's an Avengers movie. It's got the Avenger's biggest grosser - Iron Man and Marvel's most popular superhero - Spider-Man. Black Widow, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, Vision, Falcon, Ant-Man. Sounds like an Avengers movie to me.

It still has Captain America in the name which is a problem for some people around the world as much as it would be a problem for some Americans to have a Marvel movie called  "Captain Russia". That would surely hurt ticket sales in USA.

You are right though, the real The Avenger movies are more successful but not every movie can reach $1.4 billion+

Word of Mouth is surely not the problem for Civil War if it won't  reach numbers of something like Age of Ultron which was pretty mehhh and still got that high...

If word of mouth isn't the problem, them superhero fatigue is. That's the only way to explain why it's tracking below Age of Ultron.

I don't like this movie at all but it baffles me how they didn't release this as an avengers movie. It's almost front to back Avengers 3.

Avengers 2, which I think most reasonable people (ie not the 10/10 voters on IMDB and paid for critics) would agree was less than stellar. I can't see how die hard marvel fans could be disappointed with Civil War, so It would have easily matched Avengers 2 or maybe even Avengers 1 in the box office.

You all have very weird expectations for a Captain America movie. The fact that it's gonna end up - Box-Office wise - between Iron Man 3 and Age of Ultron is amazing, really. IT's doing amazingly well, it's go great reviews, and it's holding on about as well as one could hope, all things considered.

This movie will end up in the top 10 grossing films of all time, nudging Iron Man 3 out of that list, and you're still finding ways to turn that into a negative thing? Please, just stop.

Because it's not just a Captain America movie. Iron Man was featured just as heavily in the marketing.

It is definitely a Captain America movie through and through.  Yes, it features Iron Man, but the plot centers around Captain America, it's all about his struggles and what he overcomes, and the primary characters the film focuses on by both screen time and tonal weight is Captain America and Winter Soldier.

It's both, but it's MORE of a Captain America movie.

Just updated the OP. So it fell a bit more higher than anticipated. I'm a bit disappointed it won't be beating AoU numbers, since it turned out to be the superior film. It'll be making at least over $1.2B, which is an amazing number for a superhero film, but I always have higher expectations for MCU films. I'll either have to chalk it up to some saturation with too many superhero films lately, a large chunk of the GA still thinking it was merely a Cap film, or that the MCU simply isn't as 'fresh' anymore to the GA. It's maximum potential being The Avengers $1.5B total unless TA:IW Part 2 is out of this world. I also think X-Men Apocalypse is going to disappoint in terms of BO.

PS4/PS3/PC/3DS Owner (Will buy a Switch when mainline Pokemon game is released)

This felt like a Cap movie as opposed to an Avengers. Not a bad thing at all though, Cap movies are the best.

There might definitely be some superhero fatigue. By the end of May, there will have been 4 (Deadpool, BvS, CW, XM). We'll have TMNT, Ghostbusters (that's superhero to me), Suicide Squad, and Dr. Strange left. Hopefully the remaining movies kept a tight budget.
