"The real, true promise that UWP has for us is the ability to write our code once," said Forza developer Turn10, who used the new UWP Dev Mode to make the next Forza game. "What it means is that it's reduced the development time for us, and that really surfaces not only in the code that we write but also the toolset we get to use--that's the thing that's going to grow the most over time."
This is a bit tricky. What they mean is actually a fancy way of saying that porting will be easier. No matter how Microsoft tries to present it, this is porting, albeit it seems to consume far less resources. The issue is that no matter how hard they try, this is still a long shot. They need developers to back them on this. And thus far I heard more negatives then positives. And lets be honest. No matter what moves MS does, companies like Valve and Sony can respond in kind.
And one more thing. What does this really worth? Their phone and tablet division is churning out pathetic numbers, and their PC front is microscopic when it comes to gaming. My bet? They will drop this idea as soon as they will see that they are pouring money into something that simply wont take off.
