My TV is still only 720p so I don't mind at all. As long as the game runs smoothly and the gameplay is fun then I'm a happy camper!

i dont see a big difference between 720p and 1080p to be honest. Both is HD.
The gap between 480p to 720p was alot bigger.

Not anymore no, especially unacceptable in today's games which use ton of effects and filters, becomes blurry.

720p is only okay with older games which don't use as many effects and in turn look sharper. Playing Outrun 2 on the Xbox 360 emulator at 480p upscaled to HD looks better than most 720p last gen games.

Thanks to PS4 I haven't played in 720p in a long time.

Imagine if the PS4 had an exclusive game running at 720P.

Wonder how many would say resolution "doesn't matter"

There were 720P games in 2006 and here it is 2016 and we have people claiming they can't see the difference between 720P & 1080P.

Well then it would suck, but what do can you do about it, PS4 was the best they could built for 399 and not make losses. I already stopped buying Assassins Creed on PS4 after Black Flag(last good one) because the lower res is seemingly due to parity. I was afraid FFXV could be the 720p title on PS4 but it's gonna end up at 900p, probably higher on PS4K.

Yes and no, on older games and video it's fine. Newer games is another matter since I've grown accustomed to 1440p now, the difference is staggering on a good display.

If I was still playing on a CRT tv than sure. Since it's all LCD nowadays, sub native resolutions simply don't look as good. I rather they tone the effects down some what instead of making the whole image softer by upscaling.

For racing resolution makes a huge difference. Burnout paradise on Steam was much easier than on ps3, clear view of what is coming up helps immensely. Currently I'm playing Trackmania Turbo on ps4, rock solid 1080p60, 100 player lobbies (5 minute matches to set the best time with 100 ghosts on the track). It's tons of fun and clear native 1080p60 helps that. Fast Racing Neo however looks like a mess, I did not like the low visibility of the upcoming track.

I wouldn't want to play TW3 or Fallout 4 in 720p either. I love the immersion you get from being able to clearly see what lies in the distance. The extra clarity native 1080p gives to 2D games is welcome too. Resogun in 720p, no thanks.

I'm not a big fan of heavy post processing either. I'm glad I played AC 4 on ps4, still too early in the gen to ruin the clarity with heavy effects, amazing clear detail in the distance. (did not buy any after) TBH The order 1886 looks like DVD quality to me, not the beautiful clarity you can get from blu-ray. The same for Infamous, everything in the distance is slightly blurry, while KZ SF often tried to hide it with heavy effects, it breaks immersion. I'm relieved Uncharted 4 lets you see the distance without any DoF or haze or bloom hiding the details.

I don't wear glasses for 20/20 vision for nothing!
For me Native display res >= fps >>>>> Effects.

VR will be interesting. I hope they tone the effects and detail down a bit for the low apparent resolution. At least the games will be in native display res, no upscaling softness, yet the apparent resolution will be closer to 480p compared to a TV.

The resolution in and of itself is fine. If needed be, it doesn't bother me to game in 480p or 480i for that matter depending on the source. This is more on the microcosm on things. But from a big picture standpoint, 1080p would be more desirable when given the option. No one should settle for less when that option is given, and developers should push boundaries when given the resources and talent. It's called "progress."

I really think that it shoud be the standard, for the sake of games being able to run decently.

I'm now filled with determination.

All resolution are fine for me. I still play my NES. I have no problem viewing smaller sizes. At the end of the day, I have the content. If the content is natively done in a higher res. But isn't available. Would I be annoyed, yeah. But, I'm gonna still get it, and move on. Because what? You'd stop watching Lord Of The Rings. Because it was only shot in 2k. And will be upscaled from that point forward.

I mean, it's not a dealbreaker for me as long as everything else is fine. But I can certainly tell when a game is 720, and I'd rather have a higher resolution.

Bet with Adamblaziken:

I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.

Sure. I don't personally care too much about resolution.
