Forums - Sony - Rumor: New PS4k/PS4.5 leak via NeoGAF - GPU twice as powerful, dev kits already in developers' hands, $399-$499

What can Sony really do? There is a new version coming, likely slim, announcing that now is not a good decision business wise. Either way it sends a message to hold off your purchase, cheaper one or better one coming.

Maybe they have a sense of humor and announce something crazy tomorrow :) Might as well go with it now.

Well it's evident in games that this generation lacked the headroom to wow us. PS4 has the advantage of more ram but that's about it. It's gonna be a game of who can optimize the best, rather than developers really having a large headroom to deliver their huge vision.

So you still don't think that there will be a new revision of a PS4 will arrive with more horsepower?

If this rumor is true then sony can go fuck themselves. I already bought 4 PS4's this gen one for me, one for my younger siblings, one for my friend, and my day one PS4 that broke which then i had to replace and i bought all of these thinking that i (we) will have the best playstation console expirience for at least until 2018 and i do not have the nerv nor the money to replace all the PS4 i bought for me and my loved one's for this new 'slighty' more powerful PS4 just after 3 years the PS4 came out. Instead of already releasing a new hardware how about you release actual exclusives on your console that are worth buying sony! It is clearly to see that sony is using the PS4 hype to squeze more money out of the consumer than they should which is patheic and ludacris. Long story short: if these rumors are true, then sony can fuck them selves real hard and they will lose a loyal and very consumptive consumer.

This post just seems very odd to me for some reason....nowhere does it say that this will mess up your current PS4 gaming expereince nor does it say there will be content/games that will be on the new PS4 that won't be on your current one(not that you said any of that). You mention exclusives worth buying when they have some of the highest rated exclusives released and quite a few of them out already at that with SFV being the most recent, Rachet and Clank about to come out next IMMEDIATELY followed by UC4 then "supposedly" Star Ocean 5 RIGHT after that. So I am not understanding what your complaints are nor why they would lose a customer.....your posts just seemed fishy so I replied. So they will lose a customer because they may come out with a slightly more powerful PS4 that could possibly do 4K? Yeah that just seems like a bit of a stretch and doesn't make much sense...

It could be that I just looked too much into this post but it is stood out as odd to me that's all.

The absence of evidence is NOT the evidence of absence...

1. There must be some truth to these rumours about an upgraded PS4 coming out. If there was no truth to it at all, SONY would have been forced to publically object to the rumours.

2. While it may be called "PS4k", gaming in native 4k resolution is probably not the actual focus of this upgraded model. Instead, the main rationale behind the CPU/GPU upgrades is probably VR gaming: Unlike usual games, the images in VR games must be rendered twice, for the left and the right eye, so producing the same graphics quality as a usual (=non-VR) game in a VR-game probably requires about twice as much processing power. So the talk about "twice as powerful" makes perfect sense if it's really about VR; especially since the PS4 CPU/GPU is usually considered good enough for games, but not quite good enough for good VR graphics. And while this upgraded model may be technically capable of 4k resolution as well, 4k resolution will probably be more relevant for media streaming than for gaming.

3. The only thing I find strange however is that SONY apparently didn't prevent the rumours spreading already. As I get it, it's still almost a year until this new model will arrive. But who will buy a PS4 now, knowing that in just a few months there will be an upgraded model about twice as powerful? The rumours should at least slightly affect PS4 sales.

4. There's no need to worry that people owning the existant "classical" PS4 will soon suffer from inferior graphics because the devs will now focus on PS4.5 hardware. There are already 40 million PS4 out there, it would take many years before PS4.5 comes even close to that numbers.

That has to be fake. SSM is currently hiring a ton of people for their AAA team. No way they're almost done GOW4.

Also, a CPU and GPU twice as powerful as the PS4? You're looking at a $500 console minimum.

Oh, and a 4K blu ray player? Make that $600. Since a 4K blu ray player is already pretty much the price of a PS4.

A $10 phone SoC has twice the CPU power of AMD's old bulldozer (it was obsolete before the PS4 launched) and 16nm should make twice the GPU easy even for a $300 launch console it will be the 4K bluray that will make it $400.

Well, I have a 4KTV. When I was upgrading my old rear projection TV, I had a choice to go with the 4K or more cheaper model. I convince the wife to go with the 4K because I did not see myself buying another TV for probably 5 to 10 years, so wanted to get something I felt would last that long.

Anyway, really not looking to upgrade my PS4. This PS4.5 would really have to blow me away in order for me to consider such a purchase even though I easily have the money. If it comes bundled with a PSVR and both blow me away then it might get on the Holiday list.

Not for games, no.

rip in peace playstation 1994-2016

Seems like you don't know what RIP stands for

And nah, some people are eager to start dooming Sony when they have only been doing right choices after right choices since mid last gen.

PS4 will be getting a revision version in 2017, I fully expect this, it'll have 4K video support and maybe a bit better specs that will not make any differences for anyone with a PS4 and buying games after that.

There won't be a 4K gaming machine, it'll enable 4K upscaling for bigger screens but will run the same games as the PS4, Sony won't shot themselves, you all can be sure of it.

im just making fun of people saying that playstation will be dead when sony announce ps4k lol

and i think ps4k = ps4 slim imo

Whatever it is, I hope they patch a few games to run/look better on the new hardware. FFXV will probably be optimized, I guess Q1 2017 is also when the PC port launches alongside it. Bloodborne hopefully. I also expect certain games will get exclusive VR modes on the PS4K due to the extra horse power.
