They should. It doesn't mean they have to leave console gaming development. Expand revenues with mobile games and use that money to make better console games. Nintendo has the right idea, make separate teams develop mobile games without affect their on-going console/handheld efforts. SONY is doing the same now.
Besides, I can't think of console games that completely suit smartphones better than turn-based jRPGs. Port all of them please :)

Dont most major Japanese 3rd parties already do this? Square-Enix, Namco, Level 5, Sega, Capcom, Konami already have mobile studios.

Is hard to know how much money can make from Mobile, if you have a Game that was free downloaded by 10 Millions of People, you will need each people spending over 6US$ to have the Revenue of 1 Millions of Console software units sold, most games don't get all those downloads, the cost is lower, but is also risk, Candy Crush's Company, had made Dozens of other mobile games before Candy Crush's Sucess, and they don't had much money.
for example, Metal Gear Solid V, sold over 6 Millions, was Full-price for the most of time so is over 360 Millions of US$ Revenue, lets say Developers stay with half of this Money, so is 180 Million US$, how much Micro Transactions you would need to make those money on Mobile ?, you would need 10 Millions of People spending over 18US$ on Microtransactions each, Candy Crush, is one of the Mobile Market's Main games, the game had More than 400 Millions of Monthly users, and over 93 Millions of Daily users, if i can remember, and the Yearly Revenue was 1.3-1.5 Billions of US$, this means that from the over 400 Millions of Active users, they only spend over 3US$ per year on the game.
Mobile games are not guaranted money, neither safe investiment, You need to make Dozens of Mobile Games before any of your games succeed, they are cheaper to make, but Console games have a Faster Return ($$$$$$), and those games have Fanbase, is a 100% guaranteed money, if the Titles of your franchise get recognition, it will sell more the Next time, the problem is that Square Enix, and Konami, have Un-realistic expectations, that their games need to sell like Call of Duty, as someone said before, the more than 3 Millions of Sales on the month of launch of Metal Gear Solid V, and the 6 Millions of sales of Tomb Raider's Reboot, were not enought to hit the Expectations of neither Square, or Konami.
