Forums - Nintendo - Hardcore Mode in Starfox Zero apparently locked behind Falco Amiibo

The title of this thread is misleading: the Falco Amiibo doesn't unlock a mode, it unlocks an arwing.

The Black Arwing is the "hardcore mode" that's been talked about where you take more damage.

How do you know this? That they're both the same thing?

This better be not the only way to access the mode! For fuck's sake, Nintendo..

It's functionally the same difference.  Using the black arwing changes the way the player interacts with the game and vice versa.  It's like saying that hard mode in a first person shooter isn't really hard mode, they just made the character weaker.  "We don't have a hard mode for Duke Nukem Unlimited but you can unlock Duke's brother, Punk Nukem, who has weaker attacks and takes more damage!"  The end result is that it's more challenging.

Whether or not it should be refered to as hardcore mode is another matter.  There may be other modes (other arwings, whatever) that are harder.

Making your character weaker or stronger is one way of influencing difficulty, another would be enemy count, enemy AI, the amount of pickups available, etc.

Whatever the case, I'm taking a wait-and-see approach.

Luckily I have the Falco Amiibo. Still shitty though...

Not the best use of Amiibo but it's still not worse as other pubs/devs sporting all those horrible deals like micro trans and exclusive deals.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

The only ones at fault are the developers putting amiibo exclusive content in their games.

You guys gave them message that this is a ok in the first place, this could be a turning point for the better, but it requires for Ninty fans to not buy the amiibo, something that we all know won't happen.

So are you denying that it's the developers fault or what? Nintendo makes it's own decisions regardless of what the fans say so whether we give them the okay or not is irrelevant. And if they think people buying amiibo is a sign that we want amiibo exclusive content in our games then they're only fooling themselves. From what I've heard and seen most people buy amiibo for the figurine itself, not just to unlock content since it isn't worth the price in that sense, I mean $13 for a Sonic skin in Mario Kart? Gtfo! Thankfully they've already acknowledged that they know this, but it seems their response is "more amiibo exclusive content!" which I'm pretty sure no one wants.

The mode was described as one where the player's offense is raised but their defense is greatly lowered, and this video explains that the Black Arwing does precisely that.

So instead of forcing you to play the game to be able to play the more difficult mode Nintendo actually let you purchase the mode for free when you get an awesome Amiibo? What 's the problem?

I don't know maybe the fact that you need to buy a cheap ugly plastic toy aka Amiibo for on disc content.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

You know micro trans 8n Fifa etc are completely optional. Marketing deals with exclusive content are pretty bad though. But you gotta hand it to Nintendo locking on disc content with Amiibo isn't all that great either.

What a bunch of crybabies... can we atleast wait for Nintendo to officially say what will be or not... this jumping to conclusion is starting to piss me off.

Funny thing is probably 95% of you complaining about this were probably never even going to buy the damn game.

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)
