It's like saying that hard mode in a first person shooter isn't really hard mode, they just made the character weaker. "We don't have a hard mode for Duke Nukem Unlimited but you can unlock Duke's brother, Punk Nukem, who has weaker attacks and takes more damage!" The end result is that it's more challenging. Whether or not it should be refered to as hardcore mode is another matter. There may be other modes (other arwings, whatever) that are harder. |
Making your character weaker or stronger is one way of influencing difficulty, another would be enemy count, enemy AI, the amount of pickups available, etc.
Whatever the case, I'm taking a wait-and-see approach.
