None of that former console manufacturers had as many huge IPs as Nintendo. Not even close.

SEGA, SNK, Atari having no huge IPs? They have no huge IPs now because they failed commercially to transition to third party but at the time their IPs were quite huge. Look also at Capcom or Konami, owning huge IPs dont mean necessary sucess these days

Hes right, Sega, SNK & Atari never had nearly as many big sellers as Nintendo.

Capcom & Konami only have a couple huge franchise. Metal Gear Solid is basically Konami's only huge franchise.

Capcom has Street Fighter, Resident Evil & Monster Hunter. SF was huge in the early 90s then had a huge decline, had a revival in the late 00s but seems to be declining again. Resident Evil is still pretty big but the most recent entry had a big decline. Monster Hunter is huge in Japan but is still somewhat niche in the west.

None of these companies have/had close to the number of huge games Nintendo has.

I never said those hadn't big IPs. I said that none of them had as many and as big as Nintendo.

Also, I never said that having important IPs is a guaranteed success. What I wanted to say is that we haven't seen someone as big as Nintendo trying the 3rd party way. Atari, SEGA, SNK... they were big, but not as big as Nintendo in terms of IPs and influence.

Also, they went south because they were already doomed before becoming 3rd party. Nintendo is pretty much healthy.

Would really love it, Mario kart, Zelda would be even bigger and stuff Metroid would only benefit, one can dream.

Of Course it would survived, even Sega survived, but that definitely wouldn't be same Nintendo any more, same like today Sega couldnt compare with Sega while they had their hardware.

This is my real account, I just have dozens of them that I swap through once one is banned.

Why are you making this comment? Is it just because I said Nintendo games are for kids?

Is that so................

Haha. This post and seeing the inevitable ban cracked me up for some reason :D

Survive is indeed the right word.

They will be a lot better doing their quality games in their own hw and making some cashgrab on mobile. We can't base the nintendo situation only looking their home console sales and excluding the Wii.

Just out of curiosity, which Nintendo games do u guys think will sell much better on PS/XB?

Is there a big audience for platformers, kart racers, party games, life simulators, puzzle games, turn based Strategy/RPGs on PS/XB?

Yes in arcades they sold more than Nintendo, SNK also always was a smaller company and always released games as third party company dueto the high price of Neo Geo Hardware. But ounce they gived up hardware of their own they werent the same anymore this is true for any former console manufactor

Capcom & Konami only have a couple huge franchise. Metal Gear Solid is basically Konami's only huge franchise.

yeah sure Pro evolution, dance dance revolution, Castlevania, Yu Gi Oh!, Silent Hill, Suikoden, Gradius, Contra, Parodius, Rumble Roses are nothing

Again Arcade.

Do you also realise that part of the reason nintendo sells so much software is because people are pretty much forced to buy them? They spent 300 dollars on a Nintendo console so of course they have to buy at least 10 games to make it worthwile and we all know that Nintendo consoles consist of almost only Nintendo games.

If they would give up their hardware and their fanbase would be exposed on Playstation or PC entireley they wouldnt care about every Nintendo game anymore. Maybe they will buy the next Pokemon, Zelda or Mario but they sure wouldnt care about anything else coming from Nintendo. Do you really think people would buy something like Pokken or Animal crossing or fire emblem on other platforms?

Not to mention they would lose roaylty fees and their games would be charged with roaylties on each copy.

Again history has proven that every former console maker went out of shape and became just a former shadow of itself.

I'd assume the bolded would do a fair bit better. There are simply many many more of those kinds of games on PS consoles so they'd have the existing Nintendo audience to sell to (because let's face it they're not going to stop buying Nintendo games just because they go 3rd party) as well as people who are fans of those games but wouldn't buy a Nintendo console for the few that they had when there were already plenty on PS.

The Nintendo games im referring to are Fire Emblem & Pokemon, there certainly arent any turn based RPGs on PS/XB that sell anywhere close to Pokemon and the only strategy game on PS/XB to sell over 2 million last generation was Halo Wars.

There is nothing that indicates these types of games would do significantly better on PS/XB and if Nintendo games dont have a significant rise in sales than what is the point of going 3rd party?

Mario 3D, Mario Kart, Smash Brothers, Zelda, Metroid, I could see selling more (though maybe not hugely more in every case), but a game like Splatoon I could see selling less because it wouldn't get the singular attention it did on the Wii U.

But it's kinda the law of averages at this point ... there are going to be like 140-150 million PS4/XBs, not even counting STEAM/PC owners Nintendo could pick up versus 14 million Wii Us.
