I imagine they will produce Wii U at least a year into the life of NX.

Curious to see if NX even plays Wii U games.

Production doesn't really work like this, you can't just say to a supplier "hey mind whipping up a couple more Wii Us for me, we need a few more for next month".

The suppliers likely have stopped production and won't start again unless Nintendo orders a good sized volume of them to make it worth their while. Which Nintendo likely doesn't want to do because they could end up getting stuck with unsold inventory in the end. 

Even being stuck with a low number of unsold units, like lets say 100,000 units as I mentioned above, at a $200 cost/unit ... that's $20 million down the toilet. Nintendo is a notoriously stingy company, shit like that don't fly in Kyoto, that's a fast way to get yourself fired.

"Next Quarter" (April-June/ fiscal Q1) as reported in Op article as "Next Fiscal Term". Beyond next quarter is obvious, they probably wouldn't stop production  ntil late summer/ fall ( Fiscal Q2/3)

Wii U might ceasing production mght as well be confirmed from this statement. Nowhere is it stated that they intend to produce the system beyond next "fiscal Year" (ending March 2017) which I think is how a lot people mistakenly read it and what you would naturally assume Nintendo would say. Very selective use of words that gives their game away.

Doesn't mean that it is true, either.

OP. Nintendo even said they are planning to produce Wii U in the next fiscal year and beyond.

Wanting something to be true doesn't make it true. Too many want that rumor to be true because it implies that nx is launching this year.

This is the actual quote from the Nintendo rep:

"“This isn’t an announcement from our company.” The spokesperson added, “From the next quarter and thereafter as well, production [of the Wii U] is scheduled to continue.”

That actually doesn't necessarily discount what Nikkei reported. Nikkei is saying Wii U production will halt within the year end, Nintendo doesn't actually deny that point.

If Nintendo halts Wii U production in say September of this year ... then technically what the Nintendo rep is saying isn't false. They also don't directly say Nikkei is false from the actual quote given.

This is just damage control from Nintendo.

They basically said "that doesnt come from us".
Which doesnt mean the rumor isnt true, just that they wont confirm it to be so.

I dont speak japanese, so I cant confirm it, but it seems like alot of news sources are just running with "nintendo denied" when that might not be true.

Also companies lie.
