No it wouldn't. The internet is not real life. Everyone is out to get the best product for themselves. If there is a newer and better product it will be bought if there is money and desire for it. Which people would it turn off though? The ones who already  bought the old console? What are they gonna do? Stop buying games and quit gaming?

Bad press is unbelievably overrated. Just look at the 2 most hated and ridiculed game publishers. And now guess who is still able to announce record profits?

A PS4.5 would not hurt Sony. The only ones hurt would be people who bought the old console and can't or don't want to afford a new console. Not physically of course but their envy for everyone else will be palpable.

Alright, what I mean is, it would frustrate me personally because I just got my PS4 last Christmas and am already planning on getting PSVR.

I like gaming, but it has NEVER hypothetically cost this much before.

But then the anger shouldn't be directed at Sony, but your financial situation. Having a 4.5 should not lessen your gaming experience you're currently having with the PS4.

I'm gonna be the first to buy a PS4.5 because I already dread playing exclusives on the current one.

Recently MS also talked about it, but there is still a huge gap between talking, planning and realisation of the concept. Especially the 4k seems more like wishful thinking than actually being possible for a decent console price.

Yes for sure.. And the topic is also just about if the sony statement is more than just talk and recent roumors are right..

But what do you think.. would a PS4.5 be a good or bad idea..?

A very bad idea, since it harms the ways consoles are perceived by a huge part of it's userbase. A hardware device that alows them to play new 3rd and 1st party from a certain company for 5-8 years.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

Is just Rumors, nothing confirmed yet, the other thing was just Thoughts of a Man, was not a Confirmation or Nothing, is impossible to make 4K Gaming on consoles without cost more than a Car.

at this point 3 years into the Generation, they would not launch such console, because the PS5, would be weaker than that, just to have the price that Normal people would pay, so is useless to have a PS5, when your PS4.5 already is more powerful.

I don't think its about 4k so much. 4k as a thing isn't that huge. I think this is a reaction to either of two things, one is the existing PS4 is just too rubbish for VR or Sony has found out some key information about NX and is worried their product is not competitive.

To be perfectly honest if the VR headset needs a PS4.5 I'm happy with that. I'll sell my existing ps4 and upgrade to PS4.5 because I'm into VR in a big way.

I'd rather they made the VR headset PS4.5 only than rubbish and also PS4 compatible. It seems like they may throw a few VR scraps to the existing PS4 userbase but it really needs the PS4.5 for the full experience.

Maybe the new PS4 will actually be the PS4 VR console able to run all existing ps4 games as well as VR and 4k games. I'm happy with that.

Maybe the VR headset will also launch with a ps4 exchange program?

If this is a response to Nintendo NX then perhaps we ought to get more excited and finally Nintendo are back into releasing hardware with competitive specs and not last generation performance at inflated prices.

I personally don't think they should enhance 1080p games on ps4.5 I think they should be identical for both consoles that way people with existing ps4's who aren't into VR aren't missing out at all and this will still make the standard ps4 a good choice for those without VR or 4k.

Lets not forget that if the ps4 wasn't upgraded for VR then developers would be constantly fighting the hardware trying to achieve good performance on the standard ps4. To get smooth response and a high refresh rate the games may not even have met 360/ps3 quality visuals we could have been looking at something on original xbox/ps2 quality for the best experience or ps3/xbox 360 level with compromises to quality/performance. At least this way hopefully we will get a far superior experience to get much closer to the high end pc experience.

I don't think it will fragment the userbase as long as sony clearly seperate the vr/4k experience to the ps4.5 and both ps4's get the same standard 1080p game experience without enhancing on ps4.5.

What a load of FUD!
There is not a single chance Sony is going to require a ps4.5 for VR.

PS3 already had several good looking games, that still look great, running at 1080p60! PS3 visuals are more than enough for the current VR headsets and is no trouble at all for the ps4. VR is much more immersive and intense, you're better off with less distracting effects. You don't need as much detail on VR as on a 1080p screen.

The NX is not going to much more powerful than ps4 and XBox One. Nintendo doesn't do $600 consoles or sell at a big loss. And even if it was twice as powerful as the ps4 is now, that difference won't be used by 3rd parties. And you still can't play Sony games on it!

An an exchange program? Maybe if you were renting the console for $40 a month, otherwise not a chance in hell.

When this revsion does occur, and people wrap their heads around it, it is going to create a massive amount of new momentum for PlayStation. With PlayStation Vue, PlayStation VR, and PlayStation 4X, this will be by far the biggest selling platform in the history of the home console makret.

Moving to this business model, and adding the broarder services of TV and VR is going to push PlayStation to the level of the iOS products and probably beyond. Sony is on a path to take a major foothold in the electronics space, and it is going to be awesome to watch.

Stop hate, let others live the life they were given. Everyone has their problems, and no one should have to feel ashamed for the way they were born. Be proud of who you are, encourage others to be proud of themselves. Learn, research, absorb everything around you. Nothing is meaningless, a purpose is placed on everything no matter how you perceive it. Discover how to love, and share that love with everything that you encounter. Help make existence a beautiful thing.

They will never do this, only will when they launch PS5, the reason  Because Playstation 2, is the best selling console of all times, is because from 2006, to 2012, it sold more or less 50-55 Millions of Units, even after the Launch of Playstation 3 (Playstation 2, shipped 100 Millions to stores 5 Years and 9 months after launch), out there have consoles that did not sold this in all the Life-time, sold near more than the Snes, after the next generation already was out.

This is 8-9 Millions per Year after the PS3'S Launch, the Xbox One, is selling this per year in the beggining of the life of Xbox One, what Playstation 2, sold  during 6 Years after the console had 6 Years on the Market, and Playstation 2, Sold this because of the good games, games are what sell consoles, the jump from PS2, toPS3, was the biggest graphical jump of all  the times (i consider the 3D, as a Technical jump), even without Online, and with Games having Multiple times better graphic, and much bigger than the previous).

Don't need new Hardware halfway throught the gen, now you need to stay with this, now is the time developers are starting to use the consoles well, the companies must wait until next gen to do something, now need to focus  on what Home Consoles need, that are Exclusives, and Good games, this things are the ones that sell consoles.

Not a lot of people would be appreciative to know that a more powerful version of their console will be released. If this 4.5 thing is true, people that haven't still bought a PS4 and those who would like to double-dip would buy it, in theory. However, I don't see people liking this move at all, especially if they put a lot of expected games behind it. Imagine Persona 5, The Last Guardian and many other third-party games on the 4.5. It could kill the PS4 momentum indeed, and if the 4.5 doesn't turn out to be what people wished, both consoles could be dead in the water.

if PS4.5 is not a new console and just a juiced up PS4 then wouldn't the sales be bundled thogeter with the PS4? I mean, the New 3DS has games that the previous version don't and the sales are bundled anyway.

Yes it would.. I think mostly becourse of name.. becourse if sony called it PS5 instead.. it would not (imo)

It doesnt have to be called ps4,5 and i honestly do not think they will call it that way.

If it's true and it not a big upgrade over the PS4 then no.
