With exclusives like Super Smash Bros. for Wii U who can argue?

That being said. Nintendo games are generally quality. While the list is dribble, I agree that Nintendo's first party is the best; however, it too has been going downhill.

That's what excellent first party studios will give you.

It's baffling that Nitendo isn't expanding their first party capacity. As long as the games are profitable, it's free install base growth for their platform.

The problem is that the first party studios are more forced than ever to go back and forth between developing for the 3DS and Wii U, which are not as easy of consoles to develop for compared to the ones they've created in the past. Nintendo is also trying to hire as well. From what I've heard, they're one of the few in the industry that are hiring instead of laying off workers. I've seen Bill Trinen on Twitter promote Nintendo Jobs Twitter page. Of course, just hiring people is not a simple process. And from what we know and have gathered throughout the course of this gen, most, if not all, of the studios affliated to or are from Nintendo are already working on titles.

I mean, Intelligent Systems has worked on Fire Emblem Awakening, Paper Mario Sticker Star, Codename Steam, Fire Emblem Fates, and are developing Paper Mario Color Splash within a span of 3-4 years. Not to mention they collaborated with Atlus to create #FE and are even helping out in a few other Nintendo projects. That's a lot to cover in such a short amount of time (yes, 3-4 years is considerably short, even in gaming standards).

Isn't this lead due to the fact that NIntendo has to make more exclusives games to compensate the lack of support of third party developers ?

If Sony and Microsoft would have done as many exclusives games as Nintendo maybe they would have more top rated games on meta but they don't need to.

Actually Microsoft and Sony could stop doing games for Ps/Xbox and it would still have enough games from third parties to make them relevent. We can't say the same thing about Nintendo.

It is the same as N64, Wii, GCN, etc.  Nintendo has IPs that they can develop sequels to those IPs.  and GCN and N64 has those IPs developed through that consoles lifespan.  So it ain't just compensating for the lack of 3rd party support.

We can say Sony and Microsoft can pump up exclusive games like Nintendo, but if we are talking about quality, I don't think MS can bring it out.  Sony might, but still need a few more new IPs or have exclusives from 3rd party developers.

The twins can really stop making exclusives and just be like what a steam or PC can bring.  Multiplats are good for X1 and PS4.

Has anyone mentioned the lack of Knack on PS4 exclusives? It's really grinding my gears.

Edit: Nvm. It has a low meta. Carry on.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

And what do these artificially narrow goalposts mean to the average gamer?

Nothing.

Only a very tiny percentage of fanatics look at a game and say, "oh, this is on another platform, too? I don't want it now."

It depends. If you have a PS4/One and they share a lot of games, it makes more sense going for the WiiU as a 2nd platform maybe, if they have like... x4 times the exclusives the other console has. I think in this sense it's something that could make people buying a console instead of the other. But as the 1st platform, they really need more than just exclusives if you're not a Nintendo fan.

I think the takeaway is that exclusives dont matter as much as people want them to. Best exclusives and the console still flops. Interesting.

Well, the " best exlusives " statement is misleading. They got good metascore, but they are niche and not appealing to average gamer. I played Smash Bros on Wii u, I dropped it after 3-4 hours. Blashphemy ? I dont know, just not my businnes.

Also Nintendo get a favor, because their games are exotic, mostly niche genres - people are picturing Nintendo games better than they reallly are.

But but .... exclusives are the main sellers of consoles! WiiU should be throttling the competitors.

Also, why is Smash Bros on there? I believe it's on the 3DS.

Pretty common knowledge I thought.

Nintendo's first party games are still very good, despite some being questionable..
