I suppose it could be different for everyone.
I just sorta miss the days where I knew almost nothing about a game until it was released, and when I played a new game while knowing almost nothing about made it so much more exciting to the point that I recall those memories almost perfectly to this day.
With how media is, exposing new things much more often before it's released, that magic is sort of gone. So trying to relive those past moments is kind of nice, at last for me.

That was like what? the SNES days?
All the power to you if you want to go on media blackout, but I am somewhat skeptical that you havent had that same 'magic' when playing games recently just because you followed some media before playing it.
But that is your choice, and nothing wrong with it.

It's happened more often than that surprisingly, for games such as Super Mario World, Mario 64, Smash Bros Melee, the Wii, and even fairly recent with Undertale. Those are just the ones that are most prominent with me. I guess you could say I didn't really follow media for a long time on the internet.
I've found my experiences with these games the most surprising and memorable because I knew almost nothing about them before playing them. So I would think otherwise that a lot of exporsure to something would not take that excitement away. That's just me though. I can't speak for everyone.
