Well it looks good and is rather cheap. I've never seen one in real life though, so I don't know how good the quality is.
as a form of DLC though it's pretty bad or rather underused.
I'm gonna disagree with you on this one fellow dragoon lover, but these kinds of things really are just a "want" for me call it a collectible if you want, I mean people will get mad for things like skills/abilities to be locked in something(which in this case the Amiibo), but really it's not game breaking or something you can't finish a game without, I only see these kinds of things as toppings for the game nothing more, it's not gonna make me buy it just because it's locked to something. Plus, these Amiibo are better than the dlc's that you get digitally on most games anyways(I mean collectibles/dlc you can use on multiple games?).

Same here, I feel like an alien with this pointless complains
I never feelt like I was missing nothing, and I mean NEVER.
But then you read the things the people say and feels like 50% of content is locked behind the amiibo, when is barely a 1% in the worst cases LOL
I don't agree on 'unlocking abilities Kirby had before'. It may be features from older games, but it is not necessary to complete the new game. For instance, if you have a TP amiibo that unlocks Wolf Link in Zelda Wii U, you're saying its supposed to be free because Link had this ability in older games? It's an older feature but not necessary to complete the game and is maybe even not story-related to the new game.
Also, amiibo's can be seen as DLC for multiple games. You're not paying 15 dollars lets say just to play as Sword Kirby. If you have a Mario or Link amiibo, you can use it for many games. Including games that are yet to be released. I think in some way that justifies the 15 dollar price tag (including the neat figurine).
Once again there are games that come out every year and people buy the dlc that is essentially costumes, guns and accessories. If you already own the Kirby amiibo since most probably already collected it from playing Smash, what are you complaining about! I would understand your argument if Nintendo released a UFO Kirby amiibo and you had to buy that specific one for the ability, but that's not the case here. I don't like pay wall features either, but there are far worse practices of dlc done wrong more so than amiibo...

Actually that bascially is the case.

| BraLoD said: It's spawing from all kinds of content lock you can imagine already, and now it has gone so far as to take an ability Kirby already had on other games and just lock it away from people without the new amiibo for the new Kirby game, fucking locking an ability away from you if you do not buy a physical toy for $13, that if you are playing with a N3DS, because if you have a 3DS you'll also have to pay more for a separated accessory to make the amiibo work on it. |
A few things needed to be pointed out.
First, Amiibos also serve as collectables. So unlike Capcom and their on disc DLC, you actually get something extra from Nintendo. Also, unlike Capcom, Nintendo is open and honest about their content and they don't try to hide it. That is a good thing because honesty is something that is missing in the industry today.
Second, most Amiibo content is minor and any game you play that contains Amiibo content still feels complete without it. I have yet to use any of my Amiibos for Smash Bros. and yet I never felt cheated. Now, if Nintendo pulled a Capcom and released Smash Bros. without a basic single player modr, then I would feel cheated.
Finally, Amiibo is a cancer? You can look past the unfinished, broken games (Assassins Creed Unity, Battlefield 4), fake game trailers and demonstrations (Watch Dogs), Steam Greenlight games (too many examples), online modes working worse than games from a decade ago (Halo: The Master Chief Collection) or publishers simply lying about their games (Batman: Arkham Knight PC version) and you think Amiibos are the worst thing to come out of the 8th generation?
Personally, if given a choice, I would rather have every single 8th gen game have Amiibo compatibility if all those other problems were to vanish overnight.

I have been saying this for months, but no one is gonna listen to you, you cannot fight a trend and now the amiibo hate is trendy even for people that buys one per day XD
You gotta say YES, is the worst thing ever, is totally ruining my gaming experience, all my games are incomplete, is worse than EA etc and move out.
Why hasn't any big news outlets picked this up? I don like where this amiibo thing is going.
