Forums - Nintendo - Aonuma: "realistic" Zelda gets a better response than a cartoony one

Which one do you prefer?

Celda 47 33.57%

Realistic (OoT included) 88 62.86%

I don't like Zelda 5 3.57%

Total:140

The only thing official is what he's working on, which is yet again cartoony lol.

He is obssesed with cartoon style. He also already admitted. That's why PH and ST went with the WW art style.

Spinning already? Doesn't matter. The head already admitted. Whatever you want to spin is not official, like his words. Realistic has a better response.

"Everyone has been imitating this (snaps fingers) (laughs). I was told by many people that it was ‘beautiful.’"

Aonuma says a lot of things. People love unrealistic, and Aonuma knows it.

TP launched with a system with 5x the installed base.

OT: He's just saying people responded well to that style at the time. At no point did he ever claim what the title does. Zelda U is proof this idea is a falacy, as is the reception of WWHD vs. the reception of TPHD. Keep playin' though.

Here is the part that I think you are having a hard time with: Response does not equal sales.

People react well to seeing a realistic looking trailer.  Doesn't mean that they line up and buy the game.  You can call it spin if you want, but install base certainly is a factor when dealing with sales.

And more people love realistic, as he said in that video.

That's why OoT sold more than 7M in less than a third of the Wii installbase. Right? Oh, what a casualty, OoT is also considered realistic. Why don't you go to Nintendo and tell them how wrong they are?

Excuse!? Excuse for what!? I giving you clear fact, that interview is about development of original TP, so all he said is refer to that, not about current time. Whole interview is about past time, not curent.

Realistic response > cartoon response

Fact.

Officially confirmed by Eiji Aonuma.

Yes, but he talked about time when TP was developed not current time like you wrote.

Like I wrote, It's well known that Zelda TP with "realistic" graphics is somehow forced after bad reception of WW art style even WW later become one most beloved Zelda's and art style praised. Also we have two Zelda games after TP that don't have realistic graphic.

He didn't. Your disdain about this is adorable though.

God, that moment was orgasmic.

"Being a realistic Legend of Zelda game...

That was the direction we took with Ocarina of Time as well.

We'd tested out various art styles, like with the cartoony style of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker.

But it seemed like users really responded to a more realistic art style, so we gave some serious thought to how to bring that sense of reality (...)"

And they will keep testing art styles. Yet, realistic has a better response even today, even at the E3 2011 demo.

But if you want to keep living in denial, it's ok. At least they know the truth.
