Forums - Gaming - Converging Xbone and PC kills the console... or does it?

Is this what MS is planning to achieve?

People on these forums are not very representative of the gaming population. We are more likely to buy many games, to own a gaming PC or to buy console exclusive games. That is not the average gamer by any means and MS knows that.

this perspective is way to narrow. its not the nail in the coffin. its just one of many.

before i bought a ps4 i mainly played on pc. besides this little fact... but console players might have bought an xbox.

He knows it's not true.

There are many of us, and even more on GAF that said first party exlusives not on the PC are the reason to own the Xbox.

GAF, VGC, forum users. Ah, the huge group of people who made Bayonetta 2 the smashing sales-hit it is. I still remember the outcry on the forums, I still do...

Yeah, forum users really don't matter than much. And console will soon be gone. Handheld will die first, but consoles have their days numbered as well. Sony is ready for that, Nintendo is working hard on a transition to NX, MS has to get ready for the market to die as well. Life.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

It's above me why everyone makes such a big deal out of Xbone exclusives going to PC, while at the same time ignoring the fact that soon we'll be able to play every single PS exclusive on the screen of a microwave through PSNow.

1.) Name one PS4 exclusive on PSNOW.
2.) Not everyone has the internet requirments for PSNOW. When I'm in my summer home, my internet is to spotty.

By the time PS4 games are on PSNOW it will be irrelevant. Xbox One games on the PC are happening now.

Timing is everything.

I said "soon".

MS has to make the move now. Xbone is what it is, it won't win with PS4 no matter what, even if they keep the exclusives. There may not even be a successor - there is no time to waste and see. If as a swan song Xbox turns into a tool that allows MS to gain big time share in the mobile market, possibly taking Google out, it will be the best thing the brand has ever done for the company. It will be a selling point for me and something I'm waiting for - I'm sticking to Android for now, but if MS does that, I'm jumping ship and never looking back.

And honestly, tell me. How is it, that with cross0buy an Xbone gamer getting the possibility to play all his Xbone games on his PC for free suddenly loses? Is it really hurting him? In what way? He still gets the exact same product AND can play these games on his PC. You get more, yet you feel like you are losing something. What the heck?

I smell butthurt, because I don't remember the same happening when it was the 360 that was around... not to mention they stopped trying after 2010...

MS could just say "screw it" and buy either of the companies with all the spare change they are hiding in other countries... to be honest, they are the only tech company short of HP and Dell that I still like a bit (and even then my support of them has dwindled)...

Whatever happened to the world domination plans they had in the 90s?

Also, if they buy Sega, I hope they only buy the IPs and not the brand... or just the gaming division... the other companies under Sega are one hell of a trainwreck (I'd like to see MS try and say TMS from crashing down and burning) and if I had to pick a company, I'd rather them buy Mistwalker and retake Tecmo before offering it to Tom in a silver platter for all his troubles...

I love that this is the defense I always see people resorting to. Just because Ms buys it doesn't mean they won't bury it into the ground. And the Xbox project has been a loss for Microsoft that has not yielded an overall return for what... 14 years now? "Not to mention, they stopped trying after 2010". Yeah. You don't do that in business.

This is good for Pc owners that have a decent setup, but that's about it.

Xbox the console will lose sales.

I only bought an Xbox for the exclusives that wouldn't come to PC, and I have many friends who said they would have just got a PS4 and PC instead of getting an Xbox had they known so many first party games were coming to PC.

Like it or not. The PC and consoles do compete. PS4 and Xbox One compete. Xbox one and PC gamers are going to become PS4 and PC gamers.

Best case scenario, only Xbox One sales will go down, but does that really matter? If the games still get released, who cares if sales go down and more people are enjoying the alternatives? If support starts to twindle, that's when you worry.

It is still mostly hypberbole though but that's fine people love to stir up drama on the forums.

History tend to repeat itself.

Early 2006 we had threads on Vgchartz where people were saying that their is more reason to get a PS3 instead of a Xbox 360. Biggest reason? Because you can also play games like gears of war/Oblivion and the soon released games like Bioshock/Mass Effect on PC and that people will get a PS3 for real exclusives. Some time later and the only thing we saw is that Xbox 360 sold more in that period so how was that even possible, I still don't get it because people on the vgchartz forums told me that would not be the case strange.

Skip to this generation and we see that Sony follows MS Xbox 360 strategy of getting console exclusives and in fact also have so many bundles with games that also are on PC.  Is anyone really expecting bad sales for PS4 this february because games like the Witness/SFV are also on PC the same day or that the sales of the Far cry primal/SFV bundle will be bad because those games are on pc?

If millions of gamers on Xone/PS4 are buying games like Minecraft that is basically playable on every pc and people prefer it to play on consoles I don't see any reason why it would hurt the Xone or even PS4 for having games released on PC aswell.

Yeah i'm happy MS is finally changing tactics, there is no use in having multiple consoles that do the exact same thing and then end up paying for exclusive content/games to make that platform relevant. Now if only we could also play our Steam library on Xbox One, i would probably buy one right now(i currently don't have a gaming PC anymore).

You are absoutetly right. It felt like just the other day I was arguing with Sony fans that PS Vita's cross buy stradegy is not going to save the Vita. This is what a company does when they are giving up on the console. This is a sign of the direction the company is taking on the device and nothing more. That sign is less exclusive support, and possibly the transition of less support in the future...

History repeats itself indeed. I'm saying the same thing I said before. This will have a negative impact, and is a sign of things to come.

Man... this whole thread is quote worthy but in terms of the comparison of Cross buy from PC to X1 being great for a gamer with a family, you gotta remember that the way cross buy works on the playstation platform is one purchase to have 1 ps4 version, 2x Ps3 versions and 3x vita versions of the game if it's available on those platforms, I couldn't really imagine a better scenario for a family with kids than being able to purchase a game once on the gamers main console and have it also be available on a cheap ps3 for the kids room and on any vitas in the household as well, not to mention all of the psn+ games you can get for the whole family from just one subscription.

But sure, Cross buy of getting access to the PC version if you buy the X1 version digitally is good, just... realistically put it in line with a cross buy system which has been in place for over 3 years now and spans potentially 6 devices.

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Its a win win situation for MS. What pisses me off is that Xbox people are saying that PC gamers dont matter at all.
