Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Why is Microsoft so bad at making interfaces?

I'm shocked that no one brought up Apple's amazing OS X UI. Apple sucks for gaming but holy crap the UI is even better than 7.

The current X1 UI is god tier.

Their Xbox One interface is fine. Its actually the best in the gaming market imho.

I disagree. It's far more cumbersome than either Steam or PSN. Just feels like I have to go out of my way to do most things (which, actually, isn't the case with Windows 10 on PC, either).

I have to disagree, my friend. I get from point A to point B faster. Better customization and more accessible choices. Accessible color schemes and transparent tiles so you can pick and choose how you want your console interface to look. You can use the photos from the achievements you've earned to decorate your tiles (As well as uploads I believe). The avatar section is coming up in the next update. Feels less like a PC and has more modern console nav options. I get to whatever I need to get to faster than I do on PSN. My last four to five items used are itemized for easy viewing. My games with gold access is plotted right next to my current viewing box so all I have to do is click on it after I back out. The PS4 is set up like the PS3. Not much changes, while the Xbox One is set up for tile customization and accessibility. Snap an app is the best f'n thing created this generation for navigation. You can stay in an app and navigate through a completely different app. Sorry, bro. Sony has always been beaten by MS imho because they think more about what people might want and need.

The only thing I hate about the layout of the Xbox system is finding where to put the redeem codes. On PSN its at the bottom of the left hand side of the screen.

Sticky tiles are also heads and tails beyond the PS4's.

Xbox One gets more updates and less annoying maintenance.

I could go on and on. Sony has the games and thats pretty much it just like last gen imho. Microsoft gets year round updates while Sony's come after a while.

Definitely a matter of personal taste if you ask me.

I found Microsoft very good in interfaces. Esp. on Xbox One actually and I really enjoy Windows 10. They are really streamlining everything on Windows 10 PC, Windows Phone 10 and Xbox One. I just really love it.

Also: Microsoft is the number one software company (and by far). If you includes Apple, Google, Amazon etc then you are talking about Information Technologies companies which is a different category. None of Apple, Amazon or Google are close to Microsoft in term of software production. I know this is not the point of your OP and I'm not arguing but just FYI :)

On a side note: the second largest software company in the world is... Oracle... And in term of user interface they are the worse on the planet, it is unbelievable how counter-intuitive their interfaces are. But again this is a personnal oppion at the end.

It's true what you say. I'm coming from a perspective of simple and intuitive as the holy grail of UI. So my opinion is going to be different from someone who cares more about form and function for example. I really love and appreciate the Xbox One interface for it's functionality. There is customization and options ontop of options. Once you got the hang of it. It's really good. But give the controller to your friend and tell him "open netflix", "fix the internet", or "find a cheat using the Web browser" and they simply can't do it. He's going to need a step by step. I've never played a PS4 so I'm not trying to compare it to that. I mainly use Microsoft, Apple, and Nintendo products. Maybe I just need to start using smart glass again.

I don't see how you can label Apple, Google, and Amazon as IT companies and not put Microsoft in there too. None of them could do what they do if not for the software they create. Apple is exactly like microsoft are they not? I think Oracle and Microsoft make most of their money from licensing to big organizations while Apple, Google, and Amazon have their market limited to individual consumers. Is that how you distinguished them? Or this there a metric that measures software output created by each company? I'm just wondering. I think of them as all being software companies and I rank them by how much money they generate plus their dominance in their respective markets.

Definitely go faster than all of you using Kinect... Like 10 times.... I'm sure I save days compared to you over a year...

Now MS no matter how you flip it is still by far the biggest software company even compared to apple and Google... Heck they are so good at it every time google or apple sells some software they also make money...

And finally when I hear people say win 7 UI was more efficient than win 8 or 10... What a joke win 7 was so outdated and that start menu archaic architecture sucked balls big time the only reason people bought into it is because they needed to name something better than vista to feel trendy again... If you can't go faster with win 8 or 10 you're just too damn retro... Like my grandma preferring her featurephone to a smartphone...

2 step verification is never a bad idea and a button that says unavailable implies that you can't get the item, whereas a button that says bundle only is pretty self explanatory.

Please explain it to me

You don't think it's pretty clear that if it says bundle only that you need to buy a bundle to get it?

Yeah I'm not a big fan off the xbox one UI esp compared to PS4 or 360.

Playstation interface is like just scrolling lists...

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Funny thing is original xbox had nice easy interface, Xbox 360 had the sliders my fave and NXE was good too then went downhill.
