Wouldn't it be quite risky for MS to drop xboxconsole altogether and compete with steam? Xbox is a strong brand and consoles seem to be popular.

Microsoft has a really big advantage over Steam: They own the Windows OS. Steam failed to establish their linux-based OS, and most of Steam users have to use Windows one way or another. And there are more Windows users in the world than Steam users, so right off the bat they have a bigger potential userbase.

This is not how this works, Windows's user base is not like a Console's user base, this means that Not everyone will play games, and Means that the Users are not locked to Microsoft, Windows's Users have freedom, and the Windows's install base, means more install base for both  Microsoft, and for Steam, and Steam, still have Linux, and Mac os's Install base, and Microsoft, dont get 1 cent from what is sold on Steam.

Because of that PC Gaming, is unclear,  125Millions of Steam Users, still not profitable as a 125 Millions Console's Install base, so is much different.

Well the xbox brand won't really work well as a subscription because if someone wants to get the games they want they just download it on steam. Even though they put their exclusives on there most people will buy a one-month membership and go back to playing online on steam for free. Also there are PC gamers that just play F2P games so they might not be interested in the service. It would be better if they just but their games on steam or on windows store but not in direct competition with steam. Also their Xbox hardware.

Steam is successful but i don't know how MS owning windows is an advantage. Its not like they will force people to use their service.

Actually it kinda does. If the xbox one was selling bad then software would be low so it could cause them to invest more on the PC Xbox app.

Possible.

I was mistaken. http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Daily/Issues/2013/05/22/Marketing-and-Sponsorship/Microsoft-NFL.aspx

But still MS is making a good amount from software sales on Xbox.

Killer instinct releases this year(3 years after xbox launch), dead rising, titanfall are 3rd party exclusives, i dont really know whats up with fable anymore tbh. Also about Halo 5 MS confirmed that it wasnt coming to pc http://n4g.com/news/1809371/microsoft-clarifies-halo-5-not-coming-to-pc

That could work but it would still be hard to compete with steams huge userbase.

MS joined the industry to make sure that Sony doesn't overtake the PC gaming market. I doubt that they would end their hardware to support their competition.

How come?

They also said that Quantum Break, was not releasing on PC, Phill Spencer, said this about 4-5 Months ago, so Microsoft's Word (not the program, the how reliable Microsoft is) is not good, they say one thing and do another.

I agree they did say this but I am not surprised they brought ti to PC because of all Remedy's other games were on PC. As of Halo 5 the game launched 4 months ago and we haven't heard anything about a PC version except that it's not coming.

But, and the rumors of Forza 6, and Horizon 3, also coming to PC ?, Microsoft, will not reveal nothing yet, because they still have a Windows Event on the next week, and the E3, to announce those things.

But they make sense with Microsoft's policy, they want to bring tittles for Xbox One, and Phill Spencer, don't said just Quantum Break, in the same interview 4-5 months ago, he said "Those are the reasons because Quantum Break, Scalebound, and Gears of War 4, will not come for PC", so in the same interview had 3 games, and One, is releasing on PC,  if the other 2 also debut on Windows 10, how the Gamers will be able to Trust when Microsoft, came with a True exclusive ?.

I don't think MS will get rid of the Xbox division, but I don't think they will making another console. They can't compete with Playstation, and there isn't much money to be made in the console business anyways.

"There Isn't much money to be made in the console business anyways", you mean because Microsoft, don't have market share right ?, because Playstation, return a profit of over 800-1 Billion per year, and Nintendo, is making over 400 Millions of US$ per year, so there have much money to make from the Console Busines, and the PC, Console, and Mobile gaming market, will aways have growth Worldwide.

$500m - 1 billion a year isn't much for MS. They make around $20bn in profit every year from their other services.

And ?,  Only because they make more Money, this means that any other division that can bring 1 Billion of US$, and Brand recognition, also raise the value of the Brand, and of the Company, is not worth taking ?.

Even if it makes money, it brings down profit margins. And I highly doubt MS is making $1bn from Xbox right now. I'm not even sure if Xbox is making more money than Nintendo...

Basically its not worth the risk for MS to continue competing with playstation in a console industry that is dying. Without Xbox, MS could focus on something else.

The Console market is just growing, Microsoft's Profit margin already are low for a Software Company, Google, and Apple, make more Money from less Revenue.

The Playstation Brand, alone is making  Over 50% of All the Money that the Video Game Industry, were making on the 1994.

If Microsoft, don't invest on Gaming, it will be Behind a lot of other companies, The Console Market, still a lot Profitable, Made more than 11 Billions of US$ on Physical Gaming Software, only on USA, so is a good Market.
