Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is treating Amiibo as On Disc DLC

Yes I can

Link gives you arrows
Zelda gives you hearts
Ganon gives you damage.

It makes absolute perfect sense. And tell me, how the hell would be the Zelda and Link amiibo functionality translated into the game without amiibos? It would be pretty dumb to press a button to have more arrows or hearts just because, dont you think? Of course it is, because this would have not existed without amiibo, we can all agree with that right? Then why is Ganon any different? in the moment you tap it, it gives you more enemy damage, just as link gives you arrows, they needed to think in something for every amiibo of the triforce and they came with that for Ganon. This would not exists otherways.

I agree its not DLC, its Paying for cheats, something all other companies get shot down for doing.

And why should anybody be mad because someone has the option to have extra life points on a single player experience? Why? i dont get it, in any case.

And this dlc, not only is a toy that would cost almost the same without any function at all, because they are high quality, but also you dont have to pay multiple times for the same "cheat" and the toy is compatible with maybe other 10 - 12 games.

Nintendo is essentially making Day One, On Disc DLC now. Yeah, the key is a plastic toy but the mechanics of it are the same. The DLC is being planned and programmed before the games are being released. The intention is to make people spend more money on a game than they normally would. Yes, this is the same philosophy EA recently talked about and that many people criticized.

If you're bashing all other instances of Day One/On Disc DLC while defending the Amiibo strategy then, as far as I can see, that's straight-up hypocrisy.

These are pretty much my thoughts on the matter, even though I bought some amiibos >.>

That's not the point. The thing is, its pretty obvious they were not thinking on putting a button that you press and gives you arrows or hearts by the face, its pretty clear that this was a function they added because amiibo. And this is the exact same thing that happens with Ganon. Ironically people would be happier if the game had less content as long as amiibo has nothing to do with it, and thats what it does not make sense to me, if wasnt because of it TPHD would have been releasied like WWHD, with only Hero Mode and nobody would have complained.

Well yeah, amiibo is essentially day 1 on disc overpriced dlc, of course people are gonna have a problem with them. Also I'm talking about amiibo in general, not just TPHD, but even in that game, essentially having unlimited supplies could either be an easy mode or a bonus cheat. There is no need for amiibo for these features, so yes they could exist otherwise, which is the person I quoted's point, that they couldn't.

I do agree Nintendo's been walking a fine line this generation, falling off at either side on occasion.

Which I'm not exactly happy about, but I haven't made up my mind definitively yet, because I haven't had a game yet where I felt I really missed out on something good.

It's been on-disc DLC from the start. I don't mind because I like the figures, but I can certainly see why people do mind, especially as increasingly more desirable features get locked behind them.

Well atleast you're honest about it so I can respect that.

True, but when you're getting amiibos, you're also getting a figure with each one so it's not just the content that costs. That said, some of the things mentioned in the OP sound like they should be traditional DLC and not tied to amiibos... Getting figures for content sounds pretty bad. They take up space etc.
