You might be interested in an explanation, so here goes. There are two ways to look at your statement.
Vita YTD almost equal to last years (and more if you use constant weeks), I thought handhelds were not supposed to rise in their fifth year in Japan? |
1. This year encompasses only four weeks so far, including one with a notable game release. It's very flawed to extrapolate numbers for the whole year from such a sample.
2. Your statement was an obvious reference to a discussion we had last week. You claimed that mobile is killing everything in Japan and pointed at the 3DS's declining sales in its fifth year as proof; I countered by saying that it's normal for a video game system (home consoles and handhelds) to see decline at that point in the lifecycle. While above in point 1 I pointed out why your reasoning is bad, let's assume it is good for a moment. In that case you are undermining your argument from last week because mobile is evidently not killing everything in Japan like you claimed.
Any way you look at it, it doesn't look good for you.

1. You may see it as flawed, I don't. People extrapolate future numbers with even less information/no information, especially on this site. Being four weeks and one big game in is plenty enough data for me to make this statement.
2. My claim is not changing. Mobile is still killing everything in Japan and my proof was the 2014 Famitsu report for all sales for the videogame market in Japan and how the Mobile portion commanded +50% of those sales dollars, which I gave data for.
