It definitely adds a more tactical option to how someone might deal with a dungeon or with a troublesome foe. For me, it's a lot of fun to sneak around and catch an opponent unaware. It's welcomed change in my opinion.

Exactly this. Like I said, this adds more variety and diversity, especially when trying to sneak past hard enemies or simply to avoid repetitive combat.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

But what if you cant avoid the combat ;O!

What if its a situation like in Beyond Good and Evil - where if you dont use stealth techniques - the game resets your position back if you get caught by one of those laser thingies ;O!?

(This is a retag post)

Nah, I don't think they'll make it mandatory. Well, they could in some specific part of the story, but I doubt it's going to happen too often. I think it's more of an extra to avoid combat and invade bases, like Twintail said above.

Invading bases sound cool.

I wonder what the bases can be used for or what we'll get ;o

I guess that could fall under their claim of you can do a lot of things in the field when they said that last year or so.

Maybe we'll get unique loots and some kind of "influence" in the world. Like defeating DUP bases in inFamous: Second Son works. Maybe.

I wonder if it's in other parts of the game. I would like to able to go in stealth whenever I want. It would make it much easier to level up or farm for gear since you're having to fight a full battle.

I'm not sure about stealth takedowns, but crowling/covering I'm sure will be available anywhere.

I assume the best items in the game will require you take on powerful enemies head on though.

That trailer looked a lot like Metal Gear Solid V. The only thing that was left is a "a Hideo Kojima game" mention.

So it was exactly like a MGS trailer?

He is probably (hopefully) joking.

Generic gaming tropes? :P

I'm now filled with determination.

If a role-playing game doesn't offer any benefits from avoiding combat, stealth will only purpose while hurting the party otherwise (due to the lack of experience gain). Of course if resources, such as health, are scarce, it can be a worthwhile tradeoff, but it doesn't seem to be too common these days. Overall sounds like a fun feature that's probably ultimately a bad strategy in the long run, which means I won't be using it personally (if I ever get the game, considering I still don't own an 8th gen console and am not planning to get one any time soon).
