Sony really seems to be going in the right direction and PS4 is helping them very well.

I goofed abit on the time, used the time of their briefing instead of the time the actual results would be released :-3
My source seems to be completely wrong, so could you tell me what analyst estimates were?
Devices being down 60 billion YoY.... #@¤&!
It's a miracle their Pictures division profited. Was a horrible year for their films but I guess TV programming also pulls weight.

PS4 is saving Sony.
Also it's time for a new line of phones. It's time to leave the Xperia brand and create something brand new. I love Xperia phones but it's time for a change. They need to bring something new on the table.

This was only for this quarter, where their two biggest films released (Spectre and Hotel Transylvania 2). For the fiscal year so far, Pictures is still in the red, but they are forecasting a 35 Billion Yen Operating Income for the full fiscal year.

Or just drop out of the phone market completely. Aren't there enough phone companies as it is? Plus, when is the last time Sony made a phone that people were going crazy to own?

Nah, there is still too much money to be made in the smartphone business.
Sony Ericsson T68 was pretty popular. It was the first phone to have a colour screen. I had one too!
P800 was pretty popular too, one of the first phones with touchscreen. I had one too!
Also Xperia Z was pretty popular too. It sold 150.000k in Japan on the first week. I didn't get one....
Overall Sony makes bery good smartphones. One of the best for sure. For me it's in Top3 along Samsung and Apple. Thing is they are doing a terrible job marketing it especially in the US. Sales in EU and Asia are stronger. It is time to drop the Xperia line as i said. It is old and was never super popular like Galaxy or iPhone to begin with.
They just need one flagship phone, not even one more, just like iPhone and market it like there is no tommorow especially in the USA.
Everything but devices is either up on profit (what matters) or also on income.
Very health indeed... and 1B profit on a quarter is very good news.
