PS4 is saving Sony.

Also it's time for a new line of phones. It's time to leave the Xperia brand and create something brand new. I love Xperia phones but it's time for a change. They need to bring something new on the table.

Or just drop out of the phone market completely. Aren't there enough phone companies as it is? Plus, when is the last time Sony made a phone that people were going crazy to own?

If you see that, you see that the only reason Mobile has a loss this year is because of the FX impact. If the exchange rates had been the same as last year, Mobile would have had a decent profit so far this Fiscal Year (though of course some of it would dissappear in the notriously unprofitable Q4).

In any case, the cost of exiting the mobile business (yeah, there are costs related to selling of assets/businesses as well...) would be much higher than what they are set to lose in mobile over the next few years, and most likely mobile will be at ~breakeven in a year or two.

Considering they were declared "dead" by many "experts" on this forum and elsewhere a few years ago this is some turnaround. Quite remarkable really.

lol the segment which they invested most money into was the one who didnt turn a profit, which are image sensors.
Its due to Apples sloppy sales

Very cool and well deserved.

bruh

FY2015 shipments (15.4mil) have already exceeded FY2014 shipments (14.8mil) even though FY2015 still has an entire quarter to go. Sony is also still expecting to ship 17.5mil PS4 for the entire Financial Year, which would mean Sony is expecting 2.1mil PS4 shipments for FY2015 Q4, down 0.3mil from FY2014 Q4's 2.4mil.

Congrats Sony !

Harriet Tubman.

A couple things:

Late Gen 7 and gen 8 sales wise, Sony is the largest video game company, really no room for debate.

7 out of 8 quarters (almost 2 years) that the gaming division has been operating income positive... and now, like in the early 2000s, the gaming division is dictating the direction of the company. I don't see them making the same mistakes they did in 2005/2006.

Gaming division looking to post its first billion dollar year in 14 years and depending on this quarter, may surpass 2002's high water mark.

Sony wrote down the value of the Vita and Vita TV last year and while they are still being made, they have no material impact on earnings. Hopefully we can get lifetime numbers of the PS3 when all is said and done.

The Playstation 4 is Killing it.

Im just glad Sony reveal concrete numbers when it comes to their Video Game division so we can have an idea of how things are going.

I hate when companies hide the numbers, especially when it comes to Video Games.
