"Layer of difficulty" = Multiplying the damage x4. How can that be called content? Is just a number.

If you want to play the game on extra hard, dont take any hearts container.

Three hearts is pretty hard, but what if I just want to give myself an incredibly hard time?

Besides, I know that there are a good handful of games that multiply the damage you take via in-game items, so to introduce this feature via an amiibo is the only real thing that annoys me with this particular game.

Yeah but as I said (I edited my coment) the existence of that mode is thanks to amiibo, they need it something to add for Ganon so they added that, usually the content amiibo adds would be probably nonexistent if they didnt existed on the first place, so I get your point but I dont think is particularly anoying.

I thought about this before too. I have to say no. You buy the figure once. Microtransactions are things you need to rebuy multiple times. Also it can be used in other Wii U games. Hyrule Warriors uses it similarly with the same amiibo. You can use the same ones in Smash as training figures. Adds frivolous value to amiibo over those games, except Smash which I argue is the best use. And you only need the same on for each.

I used to agree with the buy once mentality, but then I realized that there a a ton of amiibo out there (and their still pumping new ones out). Remember the pit amiibo you bought, well it doesn't really work with hyrule warriors, and that link amiibo, that won't work with splatoon. Sure some amiibo can be reused, but there are too many different games that utilize different amiibos for just a one time purchase across different games

They are just giving the amiibos some functionality.... the game is the same as the original without them....

This complaining about amiibos working with games is getting out of hand. One time people complain that amiibos have useless functionalities with games, and other times they complain that the content they activate should be used without amiibos.Make up your mind guys!(this is not a stab at you, sorry if i offended you)

I assume that it's not people who can't make up their minds, but instead two different camps. I have always disliked the idea of Amiibo being used for in-game content.

I agree, I find myself in the "they are paid dlc" camp

at first I thought amiibo would be great, but once I realized they were making 70+ different variants, I now view them as over priced microtransactions.

The stupidity around amiibo is only growing more and more and more. Now some optional extra arrows/hearts once a day on a single player game is something to complain about it. Borderline pathetic.

So it's okay if nintendo charges for gameplay boosts but it's not okay when other companies do it? This was a huge complaint about last gen. The "pay $1 for more health" or "pay $2 for more arrows" is suddenly okay when disguised by amiibo?

I buy them as collectibles personally. The thing is if they do something minor people get mad. If they do something cool or big people get mad it is behind a paywall. I dont know my stance on it.

On a single player game?? WTF? Who the hell cares if I have extra arrows on my single player experience?

And no, is not "pay 1$ for hearts", if you have an amiibo, then you can use it as many times as you want, and that amiibo not only is a high quality figure for a very reasonable price but also is compatible with other 20 games, so no, is not even close to that.

It's one single player game now but seeing how amiibo crazy nintendo is, it will be worse in the future.

Likewise, the reusability of amiibo is very very restricted. Have a captain falcon amiibo, now buy a different one for Splatoon, now a different one for fire emblem, now a different one for yarn yoshi, now a different one for starfox, so on and so forth. You'd be lucky to get 3 compatible games for one amiibo, not 20 games compatibility

Given the amount of amiibo and the diversity in IP in amiibo, it's not a buy once you're done, it's usually buy for each game (which is basically paid DLC for each game).

Some people don't care about the figure, they care about the gameplay, and the idea of locking "boosts" and content behind amiibo is no better than locking them behind paid dlc (something most people dislike).

Do you even know what is Microtransactions to ask a such stupid question like this one ?

Captain Falco amiibo is compatible with 11 games, with more coming, and is not even one of the most popular characters of Nintendo. Enough said.

Well... I never bought a Pit amiibo but it works in Hyrule Warriors. In fact, only the Animal Crossing Cards and Shovel Knight Amiibo don't work in that game. Splatoon shouldn't have had any amiibo's in that game to begin with imo. That was a mistake. Sole reason, is that even if, the amiibo fucntionality was good, people would start saying what you are saying, despite it being a new IP. Despite many clamoring and wanting it to have just a tiny bit more of Mario and Zelda so they can just be like "Oh, another Mario/Zelda game!". At the very least Splatoon amiibo work across multiple games, and so does the Link amiibo.  Of the 18 -20 games I know that are out that use amiibo, Link is used in 9-11.

Generally, amiibo functionality could and should be better, however, you are going on a tangent with the actual argument of it being a microtransaction. The link amiibo is also not really a good example. In the topic at hand its talking about an in game perk that uses an amiibo multiple times. In that specific example and really any example like this, the amiibo highlighted is one you can use over an over again for the same functionality. You don't need another for it. I feel people are complaining about one problem with amiibo and slowly merging it with other problems in the industry not related to amiibo whatsoever. The OP's issue is reasonable in the sense that what happens in the game is similar to other game functions in getting buffs and such. I acknowledge that because, clearly there is a comparison, but there are differences which I prevviously explained. You complaining, however, about one amiibo can't be used in every single game that uses amiibo, is not equal, is never equal, to an amiibo as a microtransaction.
