Lafiel said: as somebody who likes stereoscopic 3D, I'm very interested in VR and PSVR is the only viable "high quality" option for me as I have a shitty PC and don't plan to upgrade (too few pc only games that interest me) but 1st gen VR might not be able to convince me to buy in .. I've tried cardboard with my 1080p phone and the image I get is just too low resolution - objects begin to be pixelated (only represented by a few pixels) at a quite close distance, so I guess I'll wait for PS5 and PSVR2. Ofcourse I'll give version 1 a try anyway once there are demo-stations at retailers. |
There's a reason why cardboard is cheap. The optics are not very good. As far as I know, the optics in more serious VR headsets, PSVR included, are designed such that the majority of the screen shows images that will go to the center of your field of view, where you see well, while less will go to your periferic vision, where the resolution of your evey goes down drastically, so resolution there is basically wasted (unless you role your eyes and not your head, hence some people demand eye tracking too - we're not there yet).
So, PSVR will have resolution problems but not to the extent of what one can find in a cardboard. Plus, when the 1:1 hadtraking comes into play, coupled with very low latency and the much larger field of view, the diference to carbdoard shoudl be big enough that it will feel like a completely different experience imo.
