I Think that we need to update this thread, Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft, already gave another Quarter's Revenue, and Profit's data, isn't ?.

Thsi threads shows fiscal year data.  What was released recenty by Sony and MS was just quarterly.  Nintendo will release theirs on Feb 2nd.

Full fiscal year data will come out around early to mid May for Sony and Nintendo while MS is offset by one quarter (we'll get their fiscal year data in mid July).

Good to know, but Why are some companies showing Q2, while others just Q1 ?.

AsGryffynn explained it very well... Fiscal Year doesn't have mandatory calendar year start from one company to another, they just have to keep the same on theirs own reports.

Do we have access to any figures? Because if we don't, we're just pointlessly speculating.

nope i don't. but the sheer size of sony as hw manufacturer puts their profit margin a lot lower than nintendo. average wages and total payroll I have no clue.

I'd have said something, but it seems DonFerrari already read my mind...

Edit: Specially in Russia...

what part of it have I read?

The good part.

Then I'm happy =]

Still no solid numbers so I wouldn't say with confidence that Sony's "profit margin" is lower than Nintendo's.

If you look at most Fiscal Year reports you'll see that Sony profit margins are very smaller than Nintendo

Sony revenue Q3: 2,580.8 B Yen for a profit of 202B Yen or 120B Yen for shareholders.... 8% or 4,7% depending on where you look... and that was a record quarter for Sony

Nintendo revenue FY15: 549,8B Yen profit for 24B Yen and 42B Yen for shareholders... 4,3% or 7,6% on a bad year. ... on 2011 1,014.35B Yen revenue for 171,1B Yen profit and 77,6B Yen net... 17% or 7,6%

On general Nintendo show better margins than Sony, it's actually one of the proud points Nintendo fans bring on the site.

Numbers! Good ol' numbers! Math is a lovely thing.

I think this is the first I've heard of this. I generally don't make a habit out of looking up financials.

Good to know.

It's been a runing topic on the forum to say that Sony is a lot bigger than Nintendo, but Nintendo makes a lot more profits. Also had the discussion that gaming department of Sony is very inferior than Nintendo on profits as well.

One thing I'll never understand from customer is the proud of the company they buy having gigantic Margins... like some people here talk proudly of Nintendo expending 20M to make a game that will generate 500M revenue while laughing at a Sony game that costed 100M and had revenue of 150M.

I would feel extorted as a Nintendo customer and pleased as a Sony customer if those were the numbers. Because first case shows that I'm paying much more than what the product should cost and on second it's a acceptable margin. Even though I have several games that were probably unprofitable and I'm happy they were made even so.

Why would you feel extorted? I assume when you purchase a game, you look at the price of the game and make a decision of your own free will before actually purchasing said game. If you don't agree to the price of the game, whether you disagree because you think the game isn't good enough or because the company you're buying from is making too much money, don't buy the freaking game.

it is sort of funny to see how much better shape financially Nintendo is in lately than Sony despite the Wii U not going great. I guess that could be attributed to the 3DS or just very careful business from them over the years (and not dropping the Wii U price! haha)

obviously Microsoft is in another league compared to Nintendo/Sony but to be fair its obviously much more than a video game company and in terms of video game numbers alone would actually be beneath them

Sony is like MS a lot bigger than playstation so technically this data doesn't say anything except that Nintendo as s company does better than Sony as a company.

Please excuse my (probally) poor grammar

"I would feel extorted"... I wouldn't buy full priced a game I don't think have that value or have a profit margin too step... And certainly I wouldn't be proud that the company I defend make big revenue and profit margin of low investiments... this kind of proudness I would only have for a company I own or am a shareholder/employee.

Same as Sony...

Microsoft's Gaming division, is mixed with other Software sales, and not just games, they pick a lot of other software to make the numbers of their "Game Division" looks better, is Impossible to track how much Money Microsoft's game division make, but is easy to track Sony's Game Division, because they give actual numbers, and because Playstation, is more than a Division for Sony, have their own Reports.

So, the Answer, if Microsoft, make the same as Sony, with Gaming, depends if Microsoft, use Windows Phone's software sales, Direct X12's API revenue, the Educative games that they are making, also sales of Minecraft, and other things.

but in Console Division, both Sony, and Nintendo, make more money with their consoles than Microsoft.

Their report specifically read an slightly higher amount of money as being "gaming revenue" Their software revenue is nearly 200 times larger and the bulk is overseas...

Microsoft, make a lot of Different claims, even Releasing Halo 5, and Minecraft Story Mode, their Gaming Revenue, was up just 5%, and they are hidding it, and saying that the 47% up on Xbox Live's game sales, is something better.

This year they were up 193-197 Millions with Gaming Revenue, i would expect more, because they had a Minecraft Release, and a Halo 5 Release, that they shouted that were 400 Millions on Revenue, on the First Week, so if there was not a Halo 5, the Revenue would be down 203 Millions or + ?.

is Hard to Track Microsoft's PR.

You don't PR with profits. Those are well beyond MS's PRing...
