1. NES - Super Mario Bros and Duck Hunt is a killer combo straight out of the blocks.

2. Wii - Wii Sports, like I said in my original thread, is a perfect demonstration of Wii's potential, however, Twilight Princess, despite being an excellent game, is a Gamecube port.

3. Gameboy

4. Xbox

5. N64 - Wasn't Shadows of the Empire a launch title for the N64? In combination with Mario 64 and Pilotwings, it still deserves a spot on my list.

Technically Twilight Princess counts, because it was released before the original it was ported from by about a month. Also Donkey Kong Barrel Blast and Super Paper Mario are ported from Gamecube but they count as Wii games now. In any case, many launches contain games that are ported from other consoles. Almost all multiplatform games of the PS3 launch were ported from the 360 but still count towards a PS3 launch because they're there.

Also Shadows of the Empire came out three months after Nintendo 64. In fact, this is how bad the first Xmas was for early adopters of the 64.

Super Mario 64-Sep 22
Pilotwings 64-Sept 22
Wave Race 64-Nov 5
Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey-Nov 14
Mortal Kombat Trilogy-Nov 14
Killer Instinct Gold-Nov 25
Cruisn USA-Dec 3
Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire-Dec 3

That's right! 8 games in 3 months during Xmas time! Man things were slower back then. At least all eight of these games were worth getting at the time.

Yea those were dry times back then, but all of those games were good.  5 of those are spectacular and the other 3 of those were worth buying at the time.  Being i was a kid with tons of time back then i put a lot of time into all those games.  Mortal kombat was still cool back then, and it was the most complete collection yet.  Cruisn was actually a good game with a sweet coop mode.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X

Let's see....PS2 launch titles;

1.ESPN International Track And Field-a button masher, also out on the Dreamcast

2.Unreal Tournament-also out on the Dreamcast,with 8 player on-line play,even against PC folks-PS2 rating(77)-DC rating(90)

4.Silent Scope-also out on the Dreamcast, neither playable with a gun

13.Madden NFL 2001-rating(91)-Dreamcast- NFL2K1-rating(97)

23.NHL 2001-comparable to the 2K2 series,also on the Dreamcast

29.Ready 2 Rumble 2-also out on the Dreamcast

30.DOA2-Hardcore-also out on the Dreamcast, and looked a whole lot better then the PS2 version

Years later a Sony Executive would remark about "the dearth of quality titles at the PS2 launch" The hardware outsold the software for over 6 months due to it being the cheapest DVD player on the market, meanwhile the Dreamcast had over 100 quality titles that the true gamers were enjoying, but "John Q Public" wanted a DVD player, you all know how that turned out.

Ok but a lot of launches contain multiplatform titles. This isn't only the PS2 guilty of this atrocity. You seem to be ignoring a few good titles that were very well made. SSX was exclusive and was the first in what was and still is the greatest snowboarding series ever. There's also Tekken Tag Tournament, which many believe to be the greatest Tekken game. Timesplitters was a good FPS at a time when they weren't an oversaturated genre. Armored Core 2 was a respectable mech shooter. Both Kessen and Dynasty Warriors 2 were well recieved and not the boring critical messes they are now. Both games felt very fresh back then. Best launch ever? No, but better than most. It's not like launches are usually very good anyways.

1 DREAMCAST!!!- should be the easy choice here. so many unique games. Plus Soul Caliber and Sonic Adventure

2. XBOX- Tough call but i have to give this to xbox for halo being so popular and jet set being a really cool unique game. didn't play PGR 1 but PGR 2 is one of the best racers of alltime

3. PSP- a lot of different and good games at launch

4- Saturn- 3 classiscs when i look at that list

5. NES

Dreamcast. Not even close.

How many titles in the Dreamcast launch were multiplatform? If the PS2 games were any good why were more consoles sold then games? Piracy?LOL   They simply were not being bought as a gaming machine. The PS2 later on in it's life would have some very fine games, but the Dreamcast started with a bang, only to find out nobody cared.

There also were two more launch titles for the Dreamcast, both exclusive and decent, Air Force Delta and Aerowings.

Armada and Marvel vs Capcom could not make it out on time, close but no cigar.

I'd just like to point out how crazy it was that the N64 only had 2 games at launch.

Like you would need anything other than Mario 64. ;)

Mario 64 was a revolutionary game, and still is a good one,but still not much choice for those who like other genres-fighting,shooting,racing etc.
