Don't be a dick is different to you are a dick. It's asking someone to stop showing that dickish behaivour. Otherwise how else are you supposed to tell someone to stop being unjustifiably bad to someone else for being poor?

No they really aren't different, don't be a dick=u think they are a dick=ur calling them a dick. Plus there are a dozen more suitable words u could have used other than dick. Also if someone is poor than they don't need to be buying Virtual Reality headsets anyway, nobody is being mean to poor people.

Yes but it's not being used as an insult. It's being used as telling someone to stop being a dick. You can't make someone think of someone different, I do think he acted like a dick so I respectfully told him not to be a dick with a reason

Do you think that's fair? Ah well goodbye

Why even bother? I got banned by some sissy mod because i wrote "no shit sherlock". oh my, what a no-no-word. My eyes roll in a wide arch and that's that.

That's rude enough to warrant at the very least a warning. Unless, of course, you had already been warned before..

@OP - I've seen a lot of unjust moderations on this site, so I can understand that it is an issue. Well, good luck to ya.

I used to be a mod of a football forum for a club. If someone broke the rule i'd message them first and get there understanding of it. I don't think I ever banned anyone. Some Mods here just click ban at the slightest of possbility of a rule break. Vgchartz used to be fun but now the site is being run to pleasure the newcomers more than the *somewhat* oldies (I aint that old to the site but not new either)

U called him a dick twice, that's fair game for a ban. I just got warned for calling someone ignorant, insults of any kind are not tolerated, and I think that's a good thing.

This is semantics. I feel for you. God knows I've been on your end of the issue for years. But, the reason you got in trouble is because you directly focused on someone's character in a negative way. The mods here don't like that. So, it's best to try and stay within some sort of topic. They just don't want you to focus on the PEOPLE posting... at least negativly.

In any event, I wish you well.

Can't blame the mods for trying to keep things civil. There are plenty more intelligent and damning ways to attack someone's character than resorting to blatant attacks. You'll grow and return.

Well, I think mods on internet forums have to be as harsh as possible. Things get ouf of control very fast on forums. I was warned 1 or 2 times, and I think they had reasons to do it. And I think this deserves, at least, a warning. I have wanted sometimes to call dick (at least) to another person, I just don't do it because that might start a cycle of insults that never ends well. There are an awful lot of options, it's not necessary to insult someone. And saying "don't be a dick" is asking somebody to stop being a dick, which is the same as calling him dick (lol, what did I even say?)

People shouldn't request permabans because it's a tad melodramatic. If you need or want to take a break from the forums then just do it.

So if I say 'Don't be a prostitute' I am calling someone a prostitute. No. I am saying down go down that path that you're heading. Same here, don't be the 'dick' that you are being made out to be. DONT BE one, not YOU ARE one

The victim mentality is strong here.

The only time what you are saying applies as accurate is when you say it PRIOR to any indicator that you might see that type of behavior.  A person telling someone asking for job advice "don't be a prostitute" works for your analogy.  Saying it after you see actions taken by someone that might indicate to you that they are already a prostitute is not the same thing.  Swap dick and prostitute, and you have your exact situation.  You were in the wrong and violated a rule, that's on you.  Regardless of your feeling for said rule.
