Which makes no sense considering that the Witcher III is on the XB1 and won game of the year,

This, this and this.

I used to say that, but then again after years of questioning it I noticed that they were saying it was the best overall game. Best overall game doesnt always mean best for a specific platform to a specific group. I mean, The Witcher was my favorite game of the year, but in all truth Tomb Raider was right behind it. I still have plenty of AAA's from last year to sift through though.

Lol and the marketing check has just cleared the bank. So much passion!

Hey, I didn't expect this game to get much recognition and it did. Cyrstal Dynamics learned a lot from Uncharted and its turning the franchise into a gem. Once Uncharted is finished, I know what will take the place of that (unless naughty dog doesnt actually stop uncharted and just changes the protagonist).

I'm sure it's a great game, but the best game of the year? There were some massive contenders...

Think IGN are trolling?

I've played most of them. Witcher was definitely better but I think they were trying to give it the attention it deserved. It reminded me so much of Uncharted 2. Not as good as Uncharted 2 but it was going into that territory.

In terms of just sheer spectacle, size, I would have to put Witcher, Fallout and Dying Light above it.

Now dont get me wrong I havent even played TR, but most people say its a good game much like the previous one. If its just like the previous one it will be an enjoyable game, but not GOTY material, just because the three games I mentioned have sheer size of the worlds, a high quality to them (which considering the size of the game world) and depth which would be unrivalled by a more traditional game playing experience such as TR. Unless the story was up there with say TLOU (which from what I've heard the story isn't that strong).

I get the same feeling when people call Bloodborne the GOTY. I mean, it sold half of what that turd Watch Dogs sold. Clearly it must not be any good or it would have sold more.

And we all know Avatar is the greatest movie ever made. And the Frozen soundtrack really was the best album released in 2014.

Or maybe sales and quality are not related in such a strong degree, idk.

Also, regarding Witcher winning GOTY and this winning Xbox GOTY, isn't that format a lot better than Witcher winning GOTY, and PS4 GOTY, and Xbone GOTY, and PC GOTY? Now Bloodborne, Undertale, and ROTR get some love.

People do seem to like it. I must confess this is perhaps one of the only times I've been happy to see a game struggle to sell as it should hopefully dissuade others from participating in this "timed exclusive" nonsense.

Nothing against the franchise itself mind you, but timed exclusives are my biggest pet peeve this gen... It serves no purpose (I doubt anyone chooses a console based on a game being available a bit earlier on one over another), alienates many fans and basically just engenders a lot of anger and frustration. That they did it to the Playstation fanbase that made the franchise the hit it is just made it even worse.

I suspect people will be far less willing to do a timed exclusive after seeing a quality, well known title pass relatively unnoticed. It's a practice that needs to go the way of the dodo.

Does piratesway usually troll  to take his comment in a negative way? Serious question because I took the meaning of his comment in a different way.

I haven't heard any major public outcry over the Final Fantasy VII remakes timed exclusivity, but meh. it was dumb  to do the Tomb Raider deal but Microsoft had to have made them an offer they could not refuse, just like Sony opened their wallet to square for timed exclusivity of FFVII.

Yeah, I suspect that's because there's more ps4 owners than xbox1 (I.e. More noise) and final fantasy has almost always been exclusive to Playstation since they left nintendo (FFXIII being the recent exception), so I doubt it surprised anyone as opposed to Tomb Raider going to Xbox, which everyone associates with the playstation brand. It wasn't until recently that I even learned ffxiii made an appearance on the xbox360.

That said, it's still a shitty practice. I just don't see why they continue to do engage in this practice; what is really being gained?

Competitive edge is what is being gained. Microsoft is just doing it at the cost of the majority, but both are using timed exclusives to cover up the flaws of their first party AAA's. Sony's haven't been that great and neither have Microsofts thus far. It seems to be changing though as new IP's start to amass. 2016 might be a very surprising year. I have both consoles so I dont get screwed. I enjoy them both.
