Forums - Gaming Discussion - Have you ever gotten tired of a genre of gaming you used to love?

I used to love Platformers. I am waiting for Nintendo to throw me a bone here.

Starting to get sick of JRPGs... Tales is the main culprit. I probably played too many over the Summer and just need a break from them.

Not really.

I don't love FPSs as much as I used to, but I still play them on good occasion.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

No, I still play everything I´ve enjoyed since I started gaming

Well I used to play a lot of jrpgs. From the Master system to Xbox 360. But then I got tired of them for various reasons. Some of my best games of all time are jrpgs, now I can't stand their character design and stories. Maybe one will bring me back someday, I don't know.

Actually no, i love all genre.

I just want video game industry make better for console. Remember last gen? There were tons of FPS/TPS, then this gen is all about open world, always online & VR.

Nope. Actually yes. Fighting games. Used to love smash and mortal combat, but they just seem ehh these days/

I came into this thread with no answer but you just made me remember how much I used to love fighting games.

Since the 16 bit days one of my favorite genres has been fighting games. I played many on consoles and played many thanks to emulation.

But during the 7th gen I kinda burned out. I still dabble in them and I really got into Killer Instinct on X1, but I don't spend too much time with that genre these days.

Yes and no.

I definitely got sick of 3D platformers like Mario Sunshine and Banjo Kazooie at some point since growing up. I over-played them as a kid and I get this horrible "what am I doing with my life" feeling when I play them now. Spending an hour trying to reach an obscure platform only to fall and then re-tread the entire level just to get back to the same point over and over again immediately frustrates me now. That said, Super Mario 3D World has fixed this issue for me and the time limits keep the levels short and sweet. I really feel that SM3DW has saved the 3D platformer genre for me.

Quite the opposite! Since the beginning of this gen I've been loving platformers more and more.

Past 7-9 years I've grown distant from Turn based gaming and more towards real time (like RTS for Strat games and hack n' slash for the other) based gaming, MMO's have more or less worn me down but I still make time for WoW.

Doesn't help that I like RTS over TBS when the RTS genre is at it's weakest compared to a decade ago and while there are some RTS titles coming out, there are still far more TBS style games for both the Strat and RPG genre.

I will say that even though I have grown distant of TBS, I still like older franchises like Fire Emblem, Pokemon, XCOM and the previous Final Fantasy titles.
