Personally I think that next year the  only Metroid-related game we'll see will be Federation Force, but there's a but, since NX is shure to be announced (and might also be released) I think Nintendo might just give us some hope for the franchise with an announcement of a new game (either 2D or of the Prime series) just to remember us that it's Metroid's anniversary.

It isn't far fetched to think that after the horrible backlash of E3 2015 Nintendo would want to give a sop to the fans of the series, so that while the anniversary can't totally be celebrated the fans know that they'll soon after be able to do so.

Note: The game doesn't have to be released in 2016, only announced.

I know, I'm only getting my hopes up :p

I hope that a new 2D Metroid comes to the 3DS, or at least a compilation of the 2D ones in 3D. It's too soon for a 3D Metroid announcement, better leave it for the NX.

You know it deserves the GOTY.

I can tell you guys from different reliable sources that a 3D Metroid will come to NX.

Maybe a 2D Metroid, but nothing beyond that.

In June 2015, the Metroid Prime director said that they have not begun development on a new console 3D Metroid game yet. If they have started it not too long after that, it's possible there may be an announcement for it next year. But if not, then I don't think so. Nintendo will probably want to have something to show for such an anticipated game.

Metroid Prime Producer, not director.

That being said, Metroid Prime producer is not the same one as the main series (Metroid, Metroid II, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion, Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid Other M). There could be a Metroid title in development without Prime producer knowing.

I think they will reveal something big in E3. They ignored 25th anniversary. They can't ignore 30th too. If they do... I will never forgive them. Never.

I am pretty sure we will have announcement of new Metroid Prime at E3. Next year is also 30th anniversary of Metroid too, Nintendo will probably mark anniversary with announcement of new Metroid Prime game.

I think E3 next year will see the announcement of a new Metroid title for NX.

Too soon for 3d metroid, they basically admitted they haven't started and likewise, retro seems to be shying away from the project, so they still need to decide who's gonna make it
