I wasnt gonna post, though i know there are loads of examples. But Guild Wars is the closest to my heart. The original Guild Wars was an amazing MMO like experience. With losts of dept and replayability. It was a joy to customise and play your character. Queue in Guild Wars 2, where anet just decided to revamp everything because they are anet, and this time guess what? They didnt strike gold. You can't re-invent the mmo formula at your pleasure. There are things that are there because they work, and what GW2 did was kill the first game, wich was really good, do away with all cooperative effort by making a zerg fest and then failed to deliver an mmo that wasnt boring and limited with customisation. Yeah, you have some customisation, but you don't have nearly the ammount of customisation and balance you had on the original. The areas are not nearly as imaginative and the gameplay is repetitive. Story of how a company killed his sucessful product to make a turd. Well, done anet. You ruined my youth.
Btw, JNK. The thing with Gothic 4 was it wasnt Gothic 4. Thats why in later releases they just called it Arcania. It was an ok game on the PS4. Great vistas, but the combat detection was messed up. I still went through it though. If it wasnt for the messed up combat i might've kept it. |
Did you played Gothic 1 and 2 (+ Night of the Raven) ?
Those are my all time favourtie RPGS. I liked them even more then modern games like Witcher 3.
Gothic 1 came out in 2001, so I played it as I was 9 years old. It was one of my first real 3d video games. As I didnt know how video games are working at that time, I really thought the game would be real. It was just that realistic, I really tried to use cheats to break through the "barrier"and discover the world beyond :D
Gothic 4 on the other hand was just an average rpg. I played it. It was okay. Like Guild wars 2, which was an average mmo. Played it, but never got the fascination of Gothic 1/2 or Guild wars 2.
Starcraft brood war --> starcraft 2 trilogy (in terms of story)
Just...the voice acting, tone of the story, direction, all of them were a step down from the original and while not horrible, it could've been something incredible but failed to deliver.
Oh, and totally forgot to add
Melee --> Brawl
Intentionally made to destroy the competitive scene and aspects of Melee. Effectively cleaved the community into two, which was seriously not needed. In the end, Melee pulled through so it's alright but seriously Sakurai...
Pretty much destroyed any competitive
Casltevania: Lords of Shadow 2 was so devastatingly underwhelming after such a fantastic reboot.
A few who come to my mind :
Langrisser milenium after 1-4
Castlevania lord of shadow 2 after 1
Alundra 2 after 1
Almost every heroes of might & magic since 3 !
Fallout 3-4 is a big let down for me after 1-2.
