It very well could be a billion dollar movie in just the domestic box office. |

Forbes is reporting $49 million for Friday (domestic, no international numbers yet).

That means it would have reached 1 billion in nine days.

9 days? How did you count that? It's 12 days.

My guess would be he counted only the US release and was thinking of at a billion on Saturday not Sunday.

Jurassic World did it the faster it did in in thirteen days. http://money.cnn.com/2015/06/22/media/jurassic-world-billion-box-office/index.html The Force Awakens will have better legs then JW plus there is really no serious competion that will slow down its legs anytime soon. |
It's hilarious how so many other movies got ignored because they were released near Star Wars.
As if they have a chance.

I live in the U.S. Star Wars released on the 18th for me. If it reaches 1 billion by Saturday/Sunday(the twenty-sixth/seventh), that would mean it took 9(or ten) days.

I would love to see it break 4B; Star Wars is a cultural phenomenon.
I took my cousin to see the 1:50pm showing today. It sold out. Crazy.
It's upped to 890m worldwide now on BoxOfficeMojo and they're estimating a 178m second weekend, domestic, while the current record for second weekend is 106m by Jurassic World... They're saying Jurassic World needed 24 days to break 550m domestic, while Star Wars will do it in just 10 days... Completely insane. I'd say a billion domestic is a given, Avatar will be left in the dust. It's up to international now and I'm curious about it's China performance in two weeks.
Interesting point: the EU/dollar exchange rate is more favorable than it has been in years, so selling as many tickets as JW or Avatar (especially the latter) will result in greater dollar profits.
Some food for thought.
