Let me explain what I mean!

David Jaffe worked on huge games like Twisted Metal and God of War and then decided to leave to do his own project exclusive to PS3, the result was a small digital title called Calling All Cars. The game was alright but a far cry from previous games that he worked on.

Kojima also worked on massive games, the most notable of course are the Metal Gear Solid games. Kojima was recently released by Konami and decided to open his own small studio and work on a PS4 exclusive.

What I don't want to see happen is Kojima making his version of "Calling All Cars". A game that will be filed under alright but nothing great. Kojima needs to be unleashed and a small team and budget might confine him to just an alright game.

I do have faith that Kojima can conjure up a masterpiece from a small budget and small team because when it comes to creativity and attention to detail, not many are even in the same league. But I do worry, we know it won't be on the same scale of MGS, nowhere near in fact, but just how far short will it be.

What the heck??? Sony will give them all the budget they need. C'mon, if it's a kojima game it'll be a BIG budget game!

I have less faith about the small budget/team than you. He generally appears to be pretty wasteful and indulgent when it comes to resources, although admittedly his GBA games didn't seem to be large budget. So I think your analogy might be on point.

Jaffe's games were not critically high, and less sales then Metal Gear Solid. Also he is western, so a much higher incentive for indie/ digital only games.

Kojima literally said he plans on making big games till the day he dies.

His first game as a independent studio will be big but who knows about his next couple of games unless he plans on making a deal with one of the big three for funding til he can himself. I'm sure he'll knock this one out of the park because it's a new IP and he can finally go wild with a game. I'm sure making non-stop sequels was boring the hell out of his artistic side.

Shouldn't we like uh.. wait until he released his first game after Konami before we make assumptions like that?

“It appeared that there had even been demonstrations to thank Big Brother for raising the chocolate ration to twenty grams a week. And only yesterday, he reflected, it had been announced that the ration was to be reduced to twenty grams a week. Was it possible that they could swallow that, after only twenty-four hours? Yes, they swallowed it.”

- George Orwell, ‘1984’

Kojima is far too much of a perfectionist and a self-indulgent egotist for him to work on anything low budget nowadays. Plus, even his lower budget games have heavy cult fanbases (see ZOE). Plus, Sony won't immediately care if Kojima takes his time - look at TLG. Maybe after a couple cycles of this, they will.

You should check out my YouTube channel, The Golden Bolt!  I review all types of video games, both classic and modern, and I also give short flyover reviews of the free games each month on PlayStation Plus to tell you if they're worth downloading.  After all, the games may be free, but your time is valuable!

I'm not sure he will do well without MGS. I mean hes a talented guy, but his other games have never been big hits.
