Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo: Amiibo will play a bigger role in its videogame business

So, Amiibo

This makes me think they want to compete directly with Sony and MS. They're probably figuring out a way to release any third party character amiibo without much hassle, should another developer/publisher request it. In this day and age when every other console does the same thing, one small step ahead like this could make their platform preferred over others.

If they keep doing what they are doing with amiibos, I really dont mind. Its kinda neat actually, the role they play with games, adding cosmetic stuff and skins(sure there are the splatoon cases, but they are few). But I think what they mean by the sentence is that we maybe will see a amiibo game, a la Skylanders? That could be huge, and a great move would be to make the game free, at least the digital version. That would sell even more tons of amiibos, and who knows, move some consoles

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

That's Ok with me especially snce now they have start producing them lots - the price is around £7.99

Switch!!!

Amiibos are fun wooooh

Maybe we'll finally get an amiibo focused game... Hopefully more amiibo on cool characters will be made someday. I'd love to have a Bomberman amiibo...

please no!

Do they mean moneywise, or in the actual games? If moneywise, yeah of course, we can already see that, if for the actual games, god no.

I think Kimishima is talking about how Amiibo is making a lot of money ( and how that'll continue to happen) and nothing more.

I guess it could work ... but I'm not entirely sold. I've noticed Amiibo sales starting to slow a bit, it's not the "sold out right away!" thing it was before, I've noticed the Animal Crossing amiibo for example aren't moving that quickly at all this holiday.

The other issue I think they have is they've actually already made Amiibos of most of their important characters. At some point people are going to stop buying the same characters over and over again. I think a lot of people have already grabbed Amiibo of their favorite Nintendo characters, so it becomes harder and harder to convince them to buy again after this I think (do you really need 3 different Mario Amiibos for example?).

What I predict they will do is make Amiibos compatible with smartphones/tablets. Many of those have NFC readers already built in. Maybe that will get more kids to buy them rather than 30 year old collectors.
