Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why you should play PS2 classics on PC

Heh heh ;p - saw this on my facebook feed yesterday lol.

I've done it on my gaming laptop - its sweet!

Also lol @ PC Gamer for using a loophole - "Use your discs" xD

But ya playing a PS2 game on a gaming PC is awesome especially if you know what specific settings to use for the graphics plugin.

Yeah I only use my discs, I swear

Just wish PCSX2 could compete with Dolphin. PS2 has the superior games but damn Dolphin is leagues ahead of any PS2 emulator

Or you could, you know, pay for them and support Sony so they can put that money into the PS4 infrastructure and it's games.

If I had a PC capable machine, I'd much rather play it on PC then spend $15 on past games. No chance I'm ever supporting that price gauging.

Lol, I am not rebuying my PS2 games to "support Sony so they can put that money into the PS4 infrastructure and it's games." Sorry, as a consumer I prioritize my surplus over Sony's. They can use their profits (producer surplus) to invest "into the PS4 infrastructure and it's games."

Your argument is analogous to saying, "you should pay your gas stations more for the same gas, so that they can invest in nicer gas stations, be happy prices are high!"

That's a strange concept. But yes, I rather buy Burnout again then mess with an emulator and show that there is still enough interest in the series to spend money on. It's all convenience in the end which is worth a bit of money to me. Time > money.

Honestly the time I spend tweaking settings for a specific game I rip off a disc is about 10-15 minutes (including ripping the iso.) That is less than the download time for the PS2 game from Sony servers would take. I'd argue that if you already own the game, it is more time-efficient than downloading the title again. Especially for larger PS2 games that used multiple discs.

Naaahh, I want my trophies for braging right reasons. Besides, I skipped the PS2 gen.

You skipped the greatest gen in gaming history? For shame.

But yeah, I get what you're saying. I have spent more money than I'd like to admit because I wanted shiny trophies. Also, it encourages me to continue playing the game, because I'm dumb.

Anyway, people should play games however they desire. I usually play games on PC when I want to play in shorter sessions, in window mode, and if I want to play with keyboard and mouse, but I play games on console if I want to play games for longer sessions or if I want to use a controller.  While I'm sure that doesn't make sense to a lot of people, it makes sense for me, since I have a job where I am basically never either not doing work or procrastinating doing work.

Out of the interest of curiosity I gave the download a try. However 5 minutes later I'm stumped...

PSCX2 requires a legal copy of the PS2 BIOS to run games.
You cannot use a copy obtained from a friend or the internet.
You must dump the BIOS from your *own* Playstation 2 console.

How do I do that? Is that even legal?
How do I connect my ps2 console to my pc to dump the bios?

Yeah as I expected all very dodgy and far from a simple process

Thread should be renamed "why you should steal PS2 games instead of buying them legally on PS4". Personally, I would argue that it's better to buy the real games and play them on a CRT on a real PS2 but, that's for another thread lol.

I didn't know PS2 came out during the Genesis/SNES generation... odd. ; )
