I don't think more topics is the remedy here. The only thing it will do is clutter up the main page and annoy people that they have to go through even more threads to find the new ones. It wouldn't solve the issue that the hot topics are generally populated with the same threads over and over while newer threads are pushed away.

If you make it the latest Topics then all threads will have their fair chance and no one has to go through all the topics again just to find the new ones because they're automatically ordered chronologically. Even in the rush hours it would take hours for new threads to disappear from a 16 item list. It really is the only logical solution and I don't understand what could possibly stand against this and why it isn't implemented already.

Agreed, I am seeing similar thing on other sites - for an extreme example, MMORPG.com has only 8 (!!) "hot" spots.

I've even made couple experiments and each confirmed that, like, 99% users never go beyond that: a random post will get, say, 120 views during 10 minutes in the "hot" window, and once it sinks out of the window - 3-5 views will be added over the whole next day.

I would be fine if they just took the Hot Topics off of the front page. You're a forum user, for god's sake. Have the integrity to dig deeper than the "mainstream" threads.

Yes, it sounds nice theoretically. What would actually happen is - the traffic would get lower, due to people being lazy - and the customrs would start walking away.

I would elaborate on the whole situation but it seems evident no one gives a fuck about this, so fuck it.

wtf?? this is mindblowing to me, i never ever go to the front VGC page i just have the fourm page in my bookmarks and always go from there.

Now you may understand why some threads get a lot of posts and others don't. Lots of people only look at the first 16 threads that remain visible for whatever amount of time they get at the front page.
